The Ariston 6-gallon point-of-use electric mini-tank water heater eliminates the wait time for hot water to come from one or two sink faucets. You can install the heater independently or in-line with a larger water-heating source. You need no hard wiring to power your unit; simply plug it into any standard outlet and this heater's ready to go. The glass-lined tank ensures long life, and the superior insulation provides quick recovery and greater energy efficiency. This 120-volt, 1500-watt water heater weighs 30 pounds and measures 14.5 x 17.5 x 17.5 inches. Ariston backs its heater with a manufacturer's 6-year limited warranty for the heat exchanger and a 1-year limited warranty for parts.
From the Manufacturer
Installing an Ariston electric mini-tank water heater under the sink puts hot water right where you need it at the point-of-use. Lightweight and compact this heater is available in three space-saving sizes: 2.5, 4, and 6+ gallons. These heaters are aesthetic on the outside, glass-lined on the inside, and offer superior insulation for higher efficiency.

Foot print is excellent takes up a lot less space then the 16 gal kenmore it replaced.
Too date w. A wife and 2 daughters we have yet to run out of hot water, but mind you this is more used for spring thru fall so extra long and hot showers don't happen. Amp pull is very low and hasn't been a factor be it we are under shore power or generator anchored out. I would not assume or say this is ignition protected, so if installing on a gas boat I would install in the cabin somewhere and not in engine room.......
Price point w. The 7 gallon tank is very reasonable and I would buy again...
UPDATE: 4 years and still going strong with the unit I installed in my travel trailer. I've spent about 2 of the last 4 years living in the trailer on job sites, so it has had a reasonable workout.
About a year later I purchased a second one of these. I used it to feed a temporary shower in my basement while I was doing a bathroom remodel. Worked well for that use, too. That unit is now installed under the kitchen sink. It saved a long run from the house water heater to the kitchen, which saves quite a bit in this cold climate, and I don't have to wait for the hot water to reach the kitchen. In addition, the switch on the front of it allows me to switch it off when I'm going to be away from home and save even more.
Recovery on these water heaters is about an hour.
Needless to say, I'm very pleased with the performance and service and I'm about to order a third unit to run the washing machine.
UPDATE 4/2/18 Still using it, still working good, near 8 years in !!!!! only thing we found is with the well water here ANY heated water will eventually build up a smelly gas in the heater hot water...it is simple to fix just use the water till cold or let it cool and run the facets for awhile so the water with the smell is run out...turn it back on and good for @ 6 months ...we also found just leaving it on barely costs any more than letting it heat and cool.
UPDATE JUNE 17, 2010 - BOTH CONTINUE TO WORK GREAT. EXCEEDED MY OWN EXPECTATION.
I've purchased 2 of these for two different purposes. Both are GREAT! Easy to install (I am boarder-line incompetent when it comes to plumbing and even I was able to do this with only a couple trips to the local hardware store).
The quality does not seem all the great ... but for the price and so far (one I've had and used for almost 2 months, the other almost a month) they work fine and there are no problems.
FACTUALLY: It does seem to take a good half hour or more to heat up and re-heat once the hot water is used. It would not in any way be useful as a tank-less water heater since only lukewarm water at best comes out as the tank reheats. Also, I live in Southern California and it is the middle of summer. I don't know how long it will take and it's performance either during the winter when tap water is usually colder or what would happen in colder climates with near freezing water coming into the tank.
NOTE: CHECK THE DIMENSIONS CAREFULLY. THE SIX (6) GALLON SIZE IS PRETTY BIG AND ALTHOUGH I DID NOT WANT TO ACTUALLY PLACE UNDER A SINK/VANITY, I DON'T THINK IT WOULD FIT UNDER ANY OF MY AVERAGE/ORDINARY SINKS OR VANITIES.
1. In an extra bathroom with no hot water, it provides enough for a quick but good shower.
2. For a pet bathtub with no access to hot water, it make a GREAT warm bath for my now VERY HAPPY DOG!
ABOUT THE NOISE.......I TRYED TO SHUT OFF WATER TO IT--THEN I TRYED TO UNPLUG IT NOTHING UNPLUGED & WATER SHUT OFF & IT STILL MAKES NOISE!!!!
I EMAILED THE MAKER(BOSCH)& THE TECK WROTE BACK "THAT'S ODD...WE NEVER HEARD OF THAT"
SO I TRYED TO RETURN IT TO AMAZON & APPARENTLY AFTER 30 DAYS THE RETURN WINDOW EXPIRES & ONLY PARTIAL REFUND & PLUS CHARGE SHIPPING----I DON'T THINK ITS WORTH IT!!!! I GUESS I AM GOING TO HAVE TO LIVE WITH THE NOISE..
