The Arkansas stones in these kits are the same quality stones that come in the wood boxes. The difference is this stones are permanently glued to a wood base. The result is the same quality sharpening stone at a lower price. The savings is in the cost of lapping the second side of the stone and making the box. The kit includes a Soft, Hard and Black Arkansas stone. The Soft Arkansas is used to repair badly worn or damaged edges, the Hard produces a very fine edge and the Black Arkansas is an extra-fine stone and was traditionally used to sharpen dental tools, surgeons scalpels and straight razors. The Arkansas Stone Kit is available in 6", 8" and 10" size and is an exception value. Made in Arkansas, USA.

I got these for a shared workshop; I went cheap because I expect they'll be mistreated by someone soon enough.
I wish I'd spent a little more.
My gouges are sharp, my beautiful gransfur bruk axe is happy, and I can reuse my xacto blades and scalpels.
My order was delayed due to error, but they reached out to me and provided excellent service. I appreciate the fact they did that without me having to message them.
I'm sure these will last for years, which I'd definitely buy again.
Already being warned that the stones are not at its original intended grit because of the cheap leveling machine, I use these for realignment and new knives to season the stone surface. May be after 20 minutes or more, it start to feel its difference. The move Steel/stone interaction is smooth but effective. Not like some Japanese stones which needs move effort to push the steel on the stone.
I could get almost a shinny edge after the black stone, after some strobing with green compound, the edge becomes mirror like. My arm is now bare and I cut so many pieces of paper because the edge is like cutting butter.
I am still new to knife sharpening so it cannot be my skill, so for such price, expect some imperfection and you will be very happy.
I ordered the 8 in model because it is much better in use when compare to shorter ones.
