Growing up, I would always look forward to the Scholastic Book Fair at school. And without fail during the fair, I would walk directly to the Choose Your Own Adventure books. The bifurcation of plot lines was something that would resonate in me years later, but at that point in my youth, this possibility of shifting plots, of sudden discovery, and conversely sudden endings, really opened a sense of wonder in stories in me. Lauer and Keidl truly succeed in bringing this sense of wonder back to a contemporary pop-culture theme: the end of the world.
All in all, "Armageddon: Pick Your Plot" is for anyone who wants to recall the joys of this particular literary genre in a new context, proving that the end of the world can actually be great fun.
The book is great for a quick read-through - It only takes a few minutes to sit down and go through an apocalypse - but definitely has re-read value due to having so many different endings. The "achievement" style goals of finding similar endings are a nice touch as well.
I would highly recommend this book!
But wait, what's this? With Armageddon: Pick Your Plot's multiple endings, the reader gets to die over and over again, in manners both glorious and fantastical.
Whether you are Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, if you don't want to be Left Behind without making a Deep Impact, then This Is the End of The Road. Your search is over. This book is your one stop eschatological shop.
