5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect paints! another great Armypainter Product
By Corey on November 20, 2018
I used the paints from this box set, and the other D&D box set to paint a good few miniatures recently, and I use mostly Army painter paints currently for most of my models, but this recent set, for whatever reason just seems so much better than even my older paints. Which might just be because those older paints are well, older. But these paints come out so perfectly smooth out of the bottle and require almost no thinning at all for most pigments, and only a drop or two of water is needed to thin them out nicely for thin layering techniques. Pigments you would normally expect to be weak, like yellows and reds are far stronger in this set than any of my other paints (older army painter, Vallejo, Reaper and even GW) and I cannot recommend this set enough. The miniature included is also well molded, and quite a nice touch. The brush included in this set is also a great starter brush and ive been slowly replacing all my brushes with Army Painter ones due to their amazing quality to cost.

Basically if your looking to start out with painting miniatures, buy this set and buy the other D&D starter paint set by Army Painter and you are good to go, you will have most colors and tones you would need for most models and could easily mix colors for those that you dont have. The only minor complaint I could say about this set is that the paint bottles are alittle on the small side of things, but as long as you know that going into this, your fine (for refrence they are about the same amount of paint as a GW standard paint pot. And for the cost your getting alot more value for this set) So all in all, I cant recommend this set enough and I really hope that The Army Painter starts selling these paints separately aswell so I can buy them when mine run out because there are a few amazing colors in this set I really love.

The Owlbear I painted following The Army Painter's online guide btw, so anyone can use these paints to great success just following their easy steps!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad intro to mini-painting
By Barry D. Johnson on April 13, 2019
I've played D&D for 25 years, but never got into painting minis (or really anything at all), so this was literally my first ever attempt. It didn't turn out too bad. I did make a wash (there's none included in this set) out of paint, water, and soap from a recipe I found online that seemed to do alright. Overall, not bad for a beginner, I think.

There were a few issues. Despite multiple attempts to get the sword to straighten out, it never really took, so that was disappointing. The brush it comes with is alright, but for the finicky bits you may want to be a specific detail brush. Also, the blue that came with my set had no dropper top (just a cap) so when I opened it in made quite a mess. For just one mini, there was enough left over. Just be careful when opening yours!

4.0 out of 5 stars Where's the purple?
By Kage Pony on January 1, 2020
I got the kit back in October, I wanted some time to do a proper review on it.
When I first received this product, it was sealed. Plastic wrapped and yet it did not come with the figure mentioned on the box and some of the paints was used already. This gave me the idea it was an open box, while I was bummed about it the seller gave me a partial refund and I used the product anyway cause I had a game coming and painted figures was better than blank white ones. I myself had lost the green paint somewhere, my fault. so I mixed the yellow and blue to paint everything green. Everything painted I mixed paints somehow to make the colors used. My only hype was the set didn't come with a purple. You can't mix anything in this set to get anything remotely purple, so I Purple Wurm sits and waits until I get another kit.
My only other hype was the the black paint no matter how much you shook the bottle would never come out neatly. rather instead would come out in a giant blob forcing me to find ways to use all the paint squirted out and now i'm out and have to buy another paint set early than expected.

4.0 out of 5 stars I'm no professional...
By Clay Hirrill on January 17, 2019
For the price I think it was a good buy. The mini isn't great, it's for practice not for play, the paint was good, and I could care less about the brush as I have other brushes I use.

Careful with this paint as some of it can be clumpy and not all of the paint seems to have the same viscosity. Some colors needed more thinning than others.

I think there may be better started sets out there but this one was solid.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sehr gut für Einsteiger und macht Freude auf mehr!
Reviewed in Germany on September 5, 2020
