The coverage and quality of the paint seems up to par. I don't know that the brushes are any great shakes, but they are appreciated, as I've been out of the mini painting game for years, and my old brushes are all beat to a pulp. One caveat for the person coming into this thinking that there will be a primer included in this collection. That is not the case. You'll have to purchase a primer and a base coat seperately, if you choose to use the methodology put forward in the Army Painter literature. I had some inexpensive craft paint that I used as a primer and a base coat, and this worked just fine. I am, to some degree, a knucklehead with this stuff, and I don't mind doing things in a slightly inefficient manner.
The ink washes seem to work well enough, though I have no prior experiences with inks. I had always used very watered-down paint to achieve the same effect.
In general, this is a really nice set. Just know that, if you are starting from scratch, there may be a few other products that will be required.
Good price, great selection of colors.
I have been using Citadel/GamesWorkshop paints for 10 plus years. But they are just so expensive these days.
Im no hardcore expert, but I found the ArmyPainter brand of paint to perform quite similar to the old Citadel/GamesWorkshop paints.
Now the question I know you want to know...
"What about the "eye dropper" style of the ArmyPainter paint containers?"
I was worried at this as first, but you just use one of those mini "painter's palette" and its a breeze.
Just drip in the amount of paint you need and away you go.
Multi color mixing is also waaaay easy with the eye dropper compared to the standard GamesWorkshop paint pots..
Have not used the entire set yet, but the greens blended very nicely.
I have applied to Plastic miniatures, 3D printed Miniatures, and Reaper Metal Miniatures.
I love some of the paints in this set.
Leather Brown, Oak brown, All Metallics, Dragon Red, Greenskin, Tanned Flesh, and ALL OF THE QUICKSHADE INKS!
However, some of the paints are too thin. Others I have to shake for 2 mins just to mix them to a consistency for painting. And It is a bit pricey for the amount of paint there actually is.
This set is good for giving you the basic paints, and the basic color schemes are Metallics and Browns for me.
It came with brushes that are quite good. The Regiment brush is a work horse that keeps on chuggin.
Its a great beginner set, and I would buy it again even with it's flaws.
