Disappointing game play and controls. Skip it; just buy the 40th Day sequel!

I regret this purchase. I picked it up because my Dad and I had recently beaten Army of Two: 40th Day and there was one weapon that was not available unless you had a saved game from this first game on your playstation. So, I picked us up a couple copies and figured we'd get equal enjoyment playing this first release of the game together as we did its sequel. I was wrong. The gameplay was much less intuitive and the controls different, and didn't allow customization. Movement was and general methods of controlling the character were more complicated and difficult, and less fluid. I know it's an older game, but we've played games older than this one with better enjoyment and success. Both of us just gave up on this game and didn't bother to complete it. If you haven't bought this yet, skip it, and buy the 40th Day sequel game. You'll be much happier with the gameplay on that one.

Great Offline Co-Op

Army of Two is a fantastic game for offline co-op for you and a buddy. If that is one of your favorite types of games, I highly recommend getting a copy. If you are just looking for a great single player shooter, go for Modern Warfare 2 / Killzone 2 / Resistance 2.

Gameplay: 8/10
It is a 3rd person, over the shoulder shooter with a fun system for upgrading your guns using money from completing mission objectives. Interesting game mechanics include an aggro management system (the guy with the strongest gun & doing the most firing draws the enemies' attention while his partner can sneak around for stealthy kills) and back-to-back actions scenes where you have a slow-mo shoot-out.

Plot: 7/10
The story is enough to transition from mission to mission without being too boring, but really, this game is all about the action.

Graphics/Sound: 6/10
Nothing remarkable, but they are certainly acceptable. The two main characters look pretty awesome with all their gear showing.

Replay factor: 7/10
There are 3 difficulties to clear and a number of weapons & upgrades to buy.

Overall: 7/10
Given the low price point of this game and the fact that it is one of the few offline co-op games on the PS3, you should give this a shot (pun intended).

I bought this game to play with my gf. She is not much into computer games. Although I really liked playing the game with her, she found the game too hard and frustating. There are so few games available with split-screen for 2 players so if this is what you are looking for then buy it.

For comparison, we previously played "Resistance: Fall Of Man". She like this much better because it was easier. The graphics are much better in Army of two. We both liked that the screen was split vertically with side-by-side images in Resistance. This game is split horizontally with the two images above and below one another. This detracted from the graphics experience.

BTW, Resistance 2 does not have the split-screen co-op campaign mode.

Follow-up:
Another problem with this game is that the save points are too far apart. We are now playing Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 and like it much better. I also bought Rainbow 6 Vegas 1 and suspect this will be good too.

Great game...need a partner

Great gameplay, good game. A must to play with another real person. Playing with the AI is simply not as fun and you could really just go through the game making him do all the work. What is the point in that?

Cons:
- It is older, so some graphics look great, some graphics looker older.
- Sometimes it is hard to tell where to exactly go. (Even with GPS...in game direction)
- While your buddy AI is good, this game is really meant to be played with 2 real people.
- While the campaign is actually a decent/normal length, it seems short (so kind of a positive too)

Pros:
- Most fun I have had in a campaign in a long time.
- Great coop, it is really fun playing with a buddy.
- It is simple but takes skill to master.

With the price down as it is, get this game. The new Army of Two game made us get this one. Now I want to buy that new one too.

i like the two player campaign for this. My friend and me played the second one and third so we decided to get this one as well. It's not as good of a storyline than the other two were but I like the back to back sequence they have on it which the third game doesn't have. The controls are pretty much the same as the other two so it wasn't that hard to figure out. If you're new to this game the controls might be a little weird especially if you're use to playing first person shooter games ex: call of duty, f.e.a.r, etc...

Campaign is very short, but I never played the Multiplayer modes. Good game though in terms of graphics, gameplay and somewhat voice acting. Also from the look of the covers, the masks remind me of the Neo Vipers from G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009). You know, the G.I. Joe movie a lot of those hated so much and still.

Third Person Shooter

I was never really big in to third person shooters until I picked up this game. It is a great idea for you to have a team mate helping you along for a change. However the AI needs some major work. You are dying and the AI sometimes will try to heal you in the middle of cross fire. It is better to have a friend team up and you two go at the game. The levels are great in depth with some cool bosses but if you have the right weapons most all bosses are push overs.

i saw the newest army of two game (cartel) and thought before i get it i need to start from the beginning so i got this game. its a good game for a offline 2 player game (which I've been looking for) my son and i played it and finished it over the span of 1 weekend (my son is 8 and I'm not the best gamer for shoot em ups so its a very easy game, very repetitive also, you go on mission shoot em, hide, shoot em, hide missions are the same every time and can become boring as all that really changes is the scenery. but again with the limited offline 2 player games around these days its not bad and the price was worth it, would not have paid full retail price though as wouldn't have felt like i had got my moneys worth

Bought this for some 2 player action fun.

The game is not made for people who do not have a certain amount of skill in FPS games. I was playing with a friend who doesn't play console games alot and we got crushed after an hour of play time.
The overall feel of the game is cheap and the gameplay mechanics aren't that great.
