After abandoning nonstick cookware years ago, the only Teflon surface left in my kitchen was the old rice cooker. I was delighted to find this stainless steel version on Amazon and decided to give it a try, hoping that the rice would not stick to the bottom of the bowl too badly. I'm happy to say that I worried for nothing. I did "fluff" the rice when it finished cooking, but didn't find it stuck at all. Why do all those old rice cookers have Teflon bowls? I really liked how easy it was to clean this new cooker too. The stainless steel bowl went right into the dishwasher, and since the lid lifts off completely, it was also easy to wash off. I have not yet experimented with the saute and simmer or steamer modes with this cooker, but think it will offer greater versatility than my old rice cooker too. All in all, I'm very well pleased. Dump those nasty Teflon things and be healthy!

so happy to have a stainless steel rice cooker! kind of small, but still big enough for us to make soups, stews, chili, and spaghetti sauce. it is our everything cooker and we love it and use it everyday. we've had it about two months now, no issues so far. though we had to learn the hard way that the "keep warm" option shuts itself off after about 12 hours, maybe less. also keep warm is just that, don't expect it to be hot if you've had it on this setting for awhile. otherwise, very pleased with it. we never have trouble cleaning it. we always take it off the heat when the rice is finished cooking. then while eating dinner, let it soak, comes clean with little to no elbow grease

Since I bought this I use it on a regular basis to cook BROWN Rice and Steam Vegetables simultaneously. Definitely read through all the directions. Classic brown rice takes about 95 minutes which is the way REAL brown rice should cook. The boil in a bag rice is not healthy contrary to those companies claims it is much HIGHER in starch and calories. The rice has come out perfect every time and the vegetables retain their nutrients unlike other methods of cooking such as microwave (which destroys the food on a cellular level) or cooking on a stove top where too much heat destroys the nutrients.

If you want a healthy way to cook your rice and vegetables don't look any further get this steamer now! It uses all surgical grade stainless steel so their is no chance of contamination by plastic (BPA) or PFOA (Teflon coating) . Many of the other steamers either have a plastic tray for steaming food or a Teflon coating. None of the ones containing the plastic have stated on the box or information "BPA FREE". If you are not familiar with BPA or PFOA I highly suggest doing a search on the internet and read up on these subjects. The health ramifications of these chemicals is very bad.

For ease of cleanup I recommend putting dish soap and hot water in the pot after use and letting it soak for a little while then using a dobe pad (its a foam sponge with a plastic mesh around it) this will work the stuck rice out of it and keep from scratching up the stainless steel. Like the instructions say the bottom of the bowl is slightly concaved inward so don't press down hard while washing as you could bend the dome outwards ruining its contact with the heating element in the unit. You honestly would have to put a lot of force on it to do this.

This is one of the best small kitchen appliances I have ever purchased.

I can't say anything bad about this product. I use it all the time and every meal comes out healthy. The instruction manual laid out how to cook assorted meats, vegetables, and grains. Using it just as a steamer works great, too. A friend warned me that stainless steel isn't the easiest thing to clean, but I've had no problems or complaints. Cooking is simple and cleaning is simple. I accidentally dropped the steel pot on the floor and it had a small dent, but I managed to push it back into place easily.

This is the best appliance I have ever purchased.

I have had this for almost a year now. IMO, this rice cooker requires a few work-arounds. that wasn't required in my old Zojirushi. The Zojirushi had Teflon coating, which turns the Teflon when heated into fluoride gas, which was unacceptable. No Teflon in Aroma NutriWare was why I chose it. The Zojirushi made fabulously perfect fluffy rice. Both have an steam vent in the lid, a small one in Zojirushi, a large one in the Aroma. Because of this large steam vent, the Aroma creates rice with a "bone" in it as my mother would say. Not acceptable. The work-around for this is to cover steam vent with a small 1 oz or less sauce bowl. Then your rice will be as good as the Zojirushi makes. Aroma needs to make a lid with a much smaller vent.

The rice sticks to the stainless steel inner pot. However, if you put that little small dish over the steam vent while cooking rice, it does not stick, provided you fluff the rice immediately when the cycle is finished, and take the inner pot out of the rice cooker so that it gets no more heat. Keep the lid off to release and residue steam, and place it back on when the steam mostly dissipates. This is required for good fluffy rice on all rice cooking. It took me a ling time to figure out the small dish solution. Aroma should have done their homework on this. Size counts, or so they say (tee-hee!).

The Stainless steel inner pot is made of cheap and relatively thin stainless steal and the bottom is slightly concave, which could be a problem if you need to cover the whole bottom with oil. In that case the oil pools around the circumference, with none in the middle. So, if you are sauteing something you will need to spread that oil out first before adding the something.
