The rice sticks to the stainless steel inner pot. However, if you put that little small dish over the steam vent while cooking rice, it does not stick, provided you fluff the rice immediately when the cycle is finished, and take the inner pot out of the rice cooker so that it gets no more heat. Keep the lid off to release and residue steam, and place it back on when the steam mostly dissipates. This is required for good fluffy rice on all rice cooking. It took me a ling time to figure out the small dish solution. Aroma should have done their homework on this. Size counts, or so they say (tee-hee!).
The Stainless steel inner pot is made of cheap and relatively thin stainless steal and the bottom is slightly concave, which could be a problem if you need to cover the whole bottom with oil. In that case the oil pools around the circumference, with none in the middle. So, if you are sauteing something you will need to spread that oil out first before adding the something. Aroma needs to change the cheap stainless steel to a higher quality. And people should consider demanding higher quality so that we can get out of this wasteful throw-away society that people with too much power for their own britches have created for us to endure. In the past, good kitchen appliances lasted generations, today you can hardly find a good appliance. Take your power back folks, and don't give it away to an expert to decide for you. Experts who were never worthy of our trust in the first place. The trees and insects animals and bees will love you for this.
There are some wonderful options with the Aroma. I love the saute button. It sautes for a few minutes and then the temperature reduces to a low simmer temperature. If the preset saute time is not enough time for your recipe, turn the machine off, and turn it back on again to saute a second time. I can easily make a lot of home-made soups with this. I can leave the simmer going and walk away for hours for soups. It is a very low temperature, provided that you add the liquid after the saute period has ended. that it maintains while I am away. I have a slow cooker, but it's size is enormous, while the Aroma is just about the right size for my needs. I can make a new pot of soup every day, and this helps with my lose-weight diet plan without spending too much time in the kitchen.. Gluten-free, grain-free, and low-carb.soups take a lot less time than for instance making grain-free, gluten-free breads out of almonds and such.
So, while I only gave the Aroma 3 stars, If you can deal with the work-arounds and cheap stainless steel issue, this might be a good product for you to purchase.
A note to Aroma: when you do change your steam-vent size, and upgrade the stainless steel inner pot, considering that I stuck with this product when normally I would have sent it back and did so much of your R & D work for you for free and gave my very honest opinion about all these things, you can just pay me back by sending me your new and improved version of the Aroma NutirWare.. Once you do put out the new and improved version, I feel sure you will get a much larger demand for this product.
-the stainless steel removable insert is really great for cleanup even when rice gets burnt on.
-the small profile of the cooker doesn't take up much counter space and looks great
-cooks rice just right and transitions to keep warm rather well (once you figure it out)*
-the rice cooker does tend to spew a lot of water/rice starch onto the counter while cooking
-using the steamer insert to avoid spewing on the counter creates just one more thing to wash
-I was trying less water so it would not spew all over the counter top but that would just burn the rice and transition poorly over to the warm function.
-I ended up using the steamer insert to give extra height to the lid so that I could use more water...therefore not burning the rice before it transitions over to the keep warm function. See picture. ( I know there are probably ways to avoid the boil over by adding certain ingredients or managing your rice differently)
-now I get a perfect pot of rice ever time without the mess. I just have one more item to wash when I'm done. Over all I still like the rice cooker. If you guys design a better lid with a stainless steel pot you would get 5 stars ever time.
because of this inherent situation that I have to work around to get my rice just right...I did take one star away.
