As the story progresses we realize her live-in boyfriend may not be as wonderful as Karisma believes him to be. There is backstory about how they met, and then the story moves to present day for the majority of the telling.
Cam does a wonderful job with the dialogue between characters. It is realistic, edgy, and feels quite natural. I do have some problems with the mixing of past and present tense and the story needs some heavy editing, but the plot is interesting and ends with a cliffhanger. There is obviously going to be a book two if not more.
All characters irk us from time to time, but I always feel if they didn't, we're not invested enough in the story especially when it comes to the protagonist. Karisma can be emotional and irrational, but that's her personality and it is showing through which means the author is giving us an inside look into the character's flaws as well as strengths. Hopefully, you don't mind sex scenes because there are a lot of those and the descriptions are specific. If you liked "Fifty Shades of Gray" you'll definitely like this book. There were many instances where it reminded me of that story, but the mystery and suspense in this book holds more of a fascination for me.
There was one moment in the book I found awkward where Karisma speaks directly to the reader rather than maintaining a dialogue consistent with others in the book. I appreciated that the author didn't wrap up the storyline in a nice little bow. Overall the book kept my attention and was an enjoyable read and I was still interested in hearing how Karisma's story would be resolved. I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author.
