That being said, it is a fascinating work to read even so. Anyone interested in the basics of military history will likely find it a good read. It helps explain the transition from armies consisting mainly of massed pikemen through musketeers and the gradual conversion to skirmish tactics necessitated by the growing volume of fire over the years. While short, I found it thoroughly enjoyable and readable.
