About the Author
Starting as a child when she learned that pumping her arm could make a trucker blow his air horn, Sandy Long has had a love affair with trucks to this day. She began driving a truck herself in 1972 and has been traveling this country’s highways and byways since then racking up millions of safely driven miles. While Long has been active in trucking issues for years, she became an online presence in 2005 when she was asked to be a contributing writer for Layover.com after she started her yahoo group Trailer Truckin’ Tech to work with new and prospective drivers. Since then, Long has contributed articles to Landline Magazine, Canadian Trucking Magazine, Truckstopusa.com, Expediterworld.com, Truckstopuk.com, Truckstopcanada.com, Truckstopau.com and Nation2Nation.com. Seeing a need for personal safety for truckers to be addressed Long wrote her first book Street Smarts: A Guide for a Truck Driver’s Personal Safety (https://www.createspace.com/3449566) and published it in May, 2010. From the response to that book, Long wrote Arriving Alive, Personal Safety and Driving Tips for Motorists to assist the non trucking driving public. Long says about her works, “Personal safety is little addressed but a big factor in highway safety in general for both truckers and non trucking motorists. It is up to the driver/traveler to keep themselves safe. With my experience as a woman trucker along with being a traveler outside of the truck, I felt I was uniquely suited to address these issues” Long is a life member of OOIDA (Owner Operator Independent Driver Association) and the Women In Trucking Association where she is on the driver advisory committee. She owns her yahoo group Trailer Truckin’ Tech, her website wwwsandylongsfair.weebly.com and is active on Facebook and her various blog sites. She lives in Northern Missouri and drives for a regional company out of Kansas City Missouri. Her traveling companion is a poodle/Jack Russell dog named Lillian Russell.
