Now the compartment is a closed, sealed space necessitating an elaborate procedure to remove a screw and then finally sort of access the staple compartment. So stupid! Apparently this company has never heard the old adage "If it aint broke, don't fix it!" They ruined the one thing that made this stapler heads and tails above all the competition. Apparently they did this in order to make this a dual stapler/nail gun. Hey I didn't want a nail gun! I wanted a simple jam proof stapler like the one I previously bought. They should change the design back to the original.
Since it was broken, I decided to take it apart to see what had went wrong:
Mind you I took the thing apart far more than I would recommend, it’s not easy to get it back together. I learned there is a silver pin/bolt that seems to allow for removal of the staple cartridge. If I’d have known that, and tried that first, it might have been unnecessary to disassemble the whole thing (maybe that’s in the manual somewhere? I dunno, typical guy fashion, I didn’t read it).
But I found that it was a staple that had gotten itself turned horizontal jamming the ejector plate (that piece of metal that forces the staples out) upward so the actuating mechanism couldn’t reset and retract the ejector again to fire.
Now it works again but gets jammed so easily, I don’t know if it’s because of the hot environment, we’re using the recommended staples. So that’s the reason for the rating. I bought a dewalt multi-tacker, and it had yet to malfunction, just wish it had the reverse design like this one.
I do feel like the one I got years ago, when they first came out, was better quality and did not jam as often. It's very hard to un-jam, too.
I guess overall I'm willing to take the good with the bad to try to avoid hand fatigue.
