I used Signo metallic gel pens, Frixion basic, pastel and rich color pens, Staedtler color pencils and the 98 pack of Crayola crayons to color the labels and the different textures work just fine on the pages. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed it—two hours passed before I realized how totally immersed I’d become in “creating my masterpiece”. Can we say de-stressed?
I recommend THE ART OF THE CIGAR coloring book for anyone—the pictures are unique, it’s fun to color them and you can even color with your kids or friends. I can’t wait for the next Vintage Press coloring book. I hope it’ll be on fashions of the 20s and 30s—I’d have a coloring marathon with that one!
Con: it is intimidating until you get the hang of it. Probably less so if you are a painter as you would naturally "connect the dots".
Pro: As a colorist, it did stretch me; challenge me, a lot! (Maybe not for you.) I've found this exciting! I've even tried developing my coloring skills to include painting. Oh, it's single sided! Yea! Boo, it's not perforated. BUT I found that with painting, with only one sheet of paper behind, it still didn't bleed through. YEA! The back sheet and the next page did seem a bit humid...not moist just humid sort of...as a non-water color painter, I don't know if this should be expected or not. I think it should be. When I do more pages, I'm going to put more papers behind or take the page out of the book.
I've attached several examples. The last on was my second attempt at water color...can you guess what was my first?
The point is: DON'T be afraid of this book! Go for it! Have fun! YOU can do it (if I can)!

It's a beautiful coloring book with a very vintage feel. I prefer solid lines in which to color using markers. This would be great with watercolor utensils.Published 6 months ago by Lynda Stewart
I do like the art on one page and blank on the other. I also like the color test page in the back. I find though that the lines are so vintage that I cannot figure out what I'm... Read morePublished 7 months ago by Mel F
