From the book's 1st page: Winfield Hill is by inclination an electronics circuit-design guru. After dropping out of the Chemical-Physics graduate program at Harvard University, and obtaining an E.E. degree, he began his engineering career at Harvard's Electronics Design Center. After 7 years of learning electronics at Harvard he founded Sea Data Corporation, where he spent 16 years designing instruments for Physical Oceanography. In 1988 he was recruited by Edwin Land to join the Rowland Institute for Science. The institute subsequently merged with Harvard University in 2003. As director of the institute's Electronics Engineering Lab he has designed some 500 scientific instruments. Recent interests include high-voltage RF (to 15 kV), high-current pulsed electronics (to 1200 A), low-noise amplifiers (to sub-n V and pA), and MOSFET pulse generators.

Paul Horowitz (born 1942) is an American physicist and electrical engineer, known primarily for his work in electronics design, as well as for his role in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (see SETI).

- Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2015Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseWhat can I say, a little dated but still a classic. Lots of practical insight on circuit details and common errors and misconceptions that can provide an in depth understanding of why one circuit works and another doesn't. Clear, direct, and well written with all the needed charts and drawings to illustrate needed concepts.
Delivered on time and with a dusk jacket. Amazing deal. I use it all the time as a reference.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2014Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseMust have and read book for any electrical engineer. The stuff they teach you in school is nothing compared to the knowledge you can gain only from this one book. Forget the school, practice and practice again.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 15, 2016If you're poor like me, this is a great cheap alternative to more expensive versions of the second edition. The pages are thin, and the type face is a little offcenter, but it really has all I need to study. I highly recommend for the hobbyist, but beware highlighting, just slip some copy paper between pages before to prevent bleed through. Only 4 stars due to off-center typeface issues.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 21, 2015Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseClear practical explanation and examples. Explanations stand alone without the math - like the classic Rider series of the 40's. Includes pragmatic applications usage. The math is available if desired but understanding but the text utility is not predicated on the math.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2016Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseThis is one of the most helpful resources that I've found for electronics. I'm new to circuitry and can understand it, and my roommate who's been doing this for years can still use it as a reference. Great for multiple levels of knowledge
- Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2016Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseHorowitz and Sanni have a well-designed reputation for putting out a well-written easy read, which in the electronic engineering field is no small feat. It's an alternative way to penetrate into the engineering mindset and understand, as the title say, "The Art of Electronics", which is a lot more than just mathematics, it's a particular way of thinking, which this book teaches masterfully.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 24, 2015Format: HardcoverVerified Purchaseamazing book , tons of information . As an electronics technician who desires to be an engineer this book explains most things on a level that can be understood but still gives enough information to go far beyond the basics

steReviewed in the United Kingdom on March 25, 20215.0 out of 5 stars Straight to the point
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseHave just got the book
I am a novice
I bought this due to the fact that there are not a lot of books out there to teach you electronic repair/theory understanding
Iv only glanced through it so bare that in mind but I agree with the other comments
It's heavy going but in time
But
In one section it explains about resistors..feed in/out..what the reading should be ... brilliant
No point giving me an engine then taking it apart and saying...there you go🤬
This book is what I have been after and although the series is expensive I'm prepared to buy as I progress..yes progress.. because apart from going into programming which seems to be the majority of books out there
I can eventually strip my tube radio and with gained knowledge.. discover what is wrong
Fix
Job well done😁
My question is why after all this time looking is there only these books
Surely the old TV repair men started somewhere 🤬
Sai MadhavReviewed in India on September 18, 20235.0 out of 5 stars Best book for learning about electronics
I would personally say that this is not a complete beginners book, because there's a lot of information. Some of the chapters where a little hard to me, but if you expand on the information with google it can so much more helpful

H. JungReviewed in Germany on July 25, 20245.0 out of 5 stars Prima
Kaufempfehlung!

Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseA must have for any budding electronic engineer.
It is infinitely more readable than other books I have on the subject.
