I guess I was looking for fresh creative ideas for creating moments (creating real laughter and emotions) and maybe that book just doesn't exist yet.
I gave her 2 stars because I did enjoy her organizational methods for pre engagement session planning. Other than that I felt that the rest of the book was irrelevant to me as it may have been geared to someone thinking about starting an engagement photography business but has not gone through the steps.
Elizabeth discusses photography & business aspect from start from the end. She gives many detailed preparation idea and tips such as what to do before the shot, the shot list, equipment to use, etc. She also discuss briefly about lighting, editing, portfolio and business.
The most interesting and informative about the book is discussion about style and theme. There are five popular themes discussed in this book: vintage style, architectural, country, studio and beach. There are many sample photos and wardrobe, and lighting tips for each theme. The photos in this book are excellent, emotional and classic.
In the last two chapters of the book, Elizabeth gives some ideas about how to package your work and how to gets residual income through stock photography. Overall, the book contains some good ideas and inspiration for your engagement photography services.
She touches on all the necessary elements without being bogged down in technical details or being dogmatic about her philosophy. The book allows you to explore your own artistic vision and refine your sense of style as a photographer. Even if you are not a pro or looking to be one, this book gives you invaluable tips and ideas that will help you become a better photographer.
The business tips given are indispensible for getting started, even if it is often overlooked by individuals with artistic sensibilties who are more focused on the artistry than the business aspect of photography.
Elizabeth is an incredibly talented photographer and a great teacher - her no-nonsense style is down to earth and inspiring. I highly recommend!!
