If you want to know about how to use and handle leather to make cases for dang near anything, the three books in this series are the ones to use.
Mr. Stohlman knew his stuff, and was not afraid to share his knowledge.
There are those who say the projects presented are a bit out of date, but the idea, as stated by the author himself, is that you will learn the methods, techniques, and leathers to make cases, lines or unlined, soft or hard, and in a variety of shapes, and custom fittings. Leather case for your bowling ball? Shot putt? ball shaped purse? same general methods, clear information and instructions!
The books start with simple projects in the first volume...subsequent volumes include suitcases, fancy bags and custom cases, Instrument, Guitar cases, and how to create protective wear for just about anything you might want.

These volumes also include information on handles, how to make, install, and decide which handle and why!

I don't know why I bother with other books, I've never been disappointed with a Stohlman book. There's an awesome amount of information in here. Even though it's out of date - I doubt I'll ever make a CB case - the techniques of how it's done can be used to make other items.

Another great book from Al Stohlman, the examples are maybe a little dated, but that really doesn't matter sinve what you want to learn is the technique. Now I only need to get volumes 2 and 3

lots of instructions on how to do many different bags and holders. if you are savvy enough you could even mix and match to a certain extent and come up with something new. nice section on stitching too.

The book arrived with no problem. I do have an issue with regards to the content and description. What the description does not tell you is that this is not a stand-alone book. You cannot purchase this book and expect to have all the information in it to complete the projects. There is another book that the author wrote that describes how to complete various stitches and methods which you need to reference. I understand the concept: the author was righting a large number of books and this is how they kept from having to repeat themselves book after book after book. The issue that I have as someone who is just a beginner is that I purchased Volume 2 (because I was more interested in the projects it had) which I found referenced me to Volume 1 for descriptions on how to complete certain parts of the projects. Now that I have purchased Volume 1, it is referring me to another book: The Art of Hand Sewing. I wouldn't have an issue if the seller were up front and honest as to the order that the books should be purchased in due to the fact that they are effectively separate courses in a specific order. I believe that I still would have purchased all the books, but it leaves a sour aftertaste to not have all of this information readily available up front.

Great book with lots of illustrations. I haven't tried any yet, but this answered my questions about how to make a molded case. It's nice to be able to grab a book like this, instead of having to wade through a bunch of YouTube videos, when you just need to quickly look something up.

I don't have a lot of this kind of book yet to compare it with, but I found this book immensely useful. This is basically a book of illustrations with notes and instructions. If you learn better with visuals, this will be immensely helpful. While some of the projects, as others have mentioned, are for items that aren't really current, the techniques and methods shown are easily applicable to other projects. A lot of things are explained as to the how and why to give you the tools to do projects outside of what is presented in this book. Great buy.
