About the Author

Satoshi Kon was an anime director and mangaka from Kushiro, Hokkaido, Japan. He was well-known for his work on Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers, and Paprika. Sadly, Kon passed away on August 24, 2010, after losing his battle with pancreatic cancer, he is remembered by all who loved his works

Zack Davisson is an award-winning translator, writer, and folklorist. He is the author of Yurei: the Japanese Ghost, Yokai Stories, Narrow Road, Amabie: Past and Present, and Kaibyo: The Supernatural Cats of Japan and translator of Shigeru Mizuki's multiple Eisner Award-winning Showa: a History of Japan, Tono Monogatari, and famous folklore comic Kitaro.

In addition, his work includes Demon Days: X-Men from Marvel, Wayward from Image, and The Art of Star Wars Visions. He has translated globally renowned entertainment properties such as Go Nagai's Devilman and Cutie Honey, Leiji Matsumoto's Space Battleship Yamato and Captain Harlock, and Satoshi Kon's Opus.

He lectured on manga, folklore, and translation at colleges such as Duke University, Annapolis Naval Academy, UCLA, and the University of Washington and contributed to exhibitions at the Henry Art Gallery, The Museum of International Folkart, Wereldmuseum Rotterdan, and the Art Gallery of New South Wales. He currently lives in Seattle, WA with his wife Miyuki, dog Mochi, cat Shere Khan, and several ghosts.

I have been a fan of Satoshi Kon since Perfect Blue can out in America around 15 years ago. It really is a must have for any fan of good anime. I just wish it had more content. Being a 100 plus pages just was not enough! It is a shame that we will no longer see more works of his. Well I enjoyed this artbook.

Adoro l'autore che ci ha accompagnato per un breve ma intenso periodo. Purtroppo le opere non sono tantissime ma sicuramente bastano per metterlo sul podio tra gli autori di anime e manga giapponesi. Non c'è un'opera sottotono, tutte sono estremamente belle. Spero ancora tanto in una ristampa sia dei manga che dei film sul suolo italiano, magari con riedizioni più decenti e con aggiunte che sarebbero sicuramente gradevoli. Nel frattempo, recuperando questo artbook mi sono rituffato negli stupendi disegni di Kon e in alcune chicche contenute all'interno (storyboard e interviste)
