"Lydia and Simon's love is so palpable, it almost hurts." ~ Tiny Mighty Katie (Amazon Review)
"Suzanne Tierney is a new-to-me author, but I'm already hooked on her elegant prose, her vivid, painterly descriptions, and her beautifullycomplex characters....t's a moving and passionate love story, at timesprovoking outrage, but ever hopeful. Highly recommended!" ~ Melanie S.(Amazon Review)

My main problem was that I continually felt that I was missing some detail. I kept backtracking thinking I had missed some movement or something somebody had said or who was who. Sometimes it was just a simple matter of trying to figure out when that arm got there or how something happened. It did take a little away from the story for me. It took me out of the story - if that makes sense. I couldn’t lose myself in the story because I kept trying to figure out some small detail that probably wasn’t significant but it felt like it might be and I couldn’t figure out what I had missed. I still enjoyed the story but I spent too much time trying to figure out what was going on....maybe it was just me. Christmas festivities can be a tad distracting. 🤷🏼♀️
I didn’t realize this was the author’s only book. I hope she writes more about these characters. I’d love more Simon and Lydia. Maybe Kitty and Ben?? I’ll cross my fingers and watch and hope.
Of course it is a love story, BUT the story background revolves around priceless works of art and the shadow of forgery that surrounds them. Just as interesting to me was the situation Jews found themselves in England for hundreds of years. A mixed marriage was the catalyst behind a quest for revenge by the son of that marriage. Trust me, you'll enjoy this book!
Suzanne Tierney's knowledge of history and art is amazing. She does a most excellent job of setting the scene, making the reader feel she's in the era of which Suzanne writes. The dialog feels authentic. I can hear the sparring between protagonist and antagonists. She drew me into the characters' inner thoughts/emotions. The sex scenes were well-done, that's all I'll say about them. All told, she did a good job with nice twists on a "classic" love story.
One often hopes for a new telling of the Victorian romance novel and is disappointed, but Tierney's book delivers in heaps. In lush language that connects bodily sensations and emotional tides while weaving in Jewish history in England through the narrative of finely individualized characters, the novel is a triumph. Highly recommended.
