The Art of Shaving - Unscented Line
Our Unscented Shaving Line is an excellent option for all skin types and sensitivities. Other than our Unscented Pre-Shave Oil, which contains clove and pepper, the entire line does not contain any Aromas.

Unscented Line
Our shaving products are formulated with quality botanical ingredients, pure essential oils and extracts from natural origins. We manufacture shaving products that are free of alcohol and synthetic dyes, because we believe these ingredients can lead to irritation during the shave.

Brand Story
We were founded in 1996 by a couple that crafted high quality products to solve everyday shaving concerns. Today, we take pride in The Perfect Shave and we help men transform grooming routines into a moment filled with purpose.

On to the After-Shave Balm review:
• It's made up of 35 ingredients! That's way too many. Generally, the less ingredients a product has the better. Due to the price point at the very least The Art of Shaving should do is tell us why each ingredient is used and what benefits it has on the skin. For example, what the heck is "IDOPROPYNYL BUTYLCARAMATE"? Of course people can google what this is but when paying a very high price for an item like this they shouldn't have to. A lot of other companies clearly tell their customers the reason and benefits of each ingredient used but not this company. They are obviously not proud of some of the ingredients used.
• While I'm not a PETA fanatic I do find it sad that this company is linked to Procter & Gamble. A company that tests products on animals.
• Although I chose their unscented lineup my facial skin became itchy, dry and irritated almost immediately after shaving. The balm went on smooth and sinked into my skin well but I don't know why this occurred a few hours later.
Point being, I'm going back to what has worked best for me for over a decade...Clinique. I thought a change would be good especially to more high priced items but I was very wrong and I just wasted my time. To the people who love The Art of Shaving products, good for you but it didn't work for me due to the three bullet points mentioned above.
Here is my review of the samples I got:
The pre-shave oil made my beard very soft and had a very nice, faint smell to it. The shaving cream lathered extremely well and made my face feel very fresh. And lastly, the product I ended up ordering with my own money... this aftershave balm, made my face extremely soft, helped stop breakouts, and had an extremely good smell to it although it said it was unscented.
NOW... here’s the catch. The sample aftershave balm I received had a very runny texture- it applied very easily and a little went a long ways. It felt very light on my face and after using it for a week my face had never felt or looked better. My girlfriend said it smelled “like a hint of cinnamon or fireball whiskey” but it wasn’t overpowering. It smelled great. I literally LOVED the sample... but here is what I ended up getting:
The product I received literally had NO SCENT. Bummer, but not a huge deal if it still helped out my face. But wait... this product was much thicker, heavier, and almost cream like. I had to use almost twice as much to cover my face, and it didn’t make my face half as soft as the sample did.
Now, I am out $35 for a product that I feel is in the same ballpark of products in the $10 and under range. That is the reason for my 2 star review, the product is nothing special and not a good deal for the money. I also feel deceived from both parties for getting a high quality free sample then spending good money on it to just to get an inferior product. Maybe they changed their formula in that 1 month, who knows. To Amazon or the Art of Shaving... Send me the same product I got in the sample, and I will update to a 5 star review.

Differences I notice:
1. This one is unscented just like my first one. This one is truly unscented which is what you expect. The original one still had a vague smell (good smelling). This isn't an issue since I purchased unscented but it was the first thing that made me think it was different.
2. This one is much more watery than the first one. The first one I purchased was more of a lotion and this one is like they took that and watered it down. The result is I end up using more than I used to. This led me to think that maybe just they just changed the formula so they could have higher turnover from people using more. My first bottle lasted me over a year and this one will certainly no last that long. Another side effect of this is that nicks would stop bleeding and heal quicker with the thicker lotion and now they continue to bleed longer.
3. This one doesn't have any sort of numbing or tingle effect to it. The first one I bought I really liked because it had some sort of lanacane that would numb/tingle your skin just ever so slightly. This was really nice especially for areas around your mouth after you shave your mustache. It would stop the burn and give it a nice feel. This led me to believe that maybe this was a knock off.
Overall it still does the same job of helping stop razor burn and if I tried it first like this I would probably be fine. Since I tried the first one from the store and liked it a lot better my next purchase will be from the store again. I gave it 3 stars because it does do what it says but I don't feel like it is the same experience as I had with the first bottle I bought.
