About the Author
In keeping with their interest in both the reality of space exploration and the science fiction that helps inspire it, in 2003 Judith and Garfield were invited to join a NASA Space Policy Workshop for the development of NASA's new goals as put forth in the agency's 2004 Vision for Space Exploration. Then, for the 2004 television season, the couple joined the writing staff of Star Trek: Enterprise as executive story editors. For more information, please visit www.reeves-stevens.com.

Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens are bestselling novelists as well as a writing/producing team who have created, written, and produced television in the United States, Canada, and Australia. In June, 2013, they were honored with a Constellation Award for “Outstanding Canadian Contribution to Science Fiction Film or Television in 2012” for creating the new series, PRIMEVAL: NEW WORLD.
Another of their television projects was literally out of this world: RACE TO MARS, a four-hour miniseries for Discovery Channel Canada and the Science Channel. Part of an unprecedented television event, the mini is the companion piece to MARS RISING, a six-hour documentary series detailing the current state of Mars exploration. Judith and Garfield worked with more than seventy scientific and technical advisors to create the dramatic story of the first human mission to Mars in the year 2031. The Toronto Star praised the miniseries as “a tautly written tale that simply zings with tension… a dramatic winner.”
Judith's and Garfield's familiarity with Mars arose, in part, from their acclaimed non-fiction book: GOING TO MARS: The Stories of the People Behind NASA’s Mars Missions, Past, Present, and Future. The book was co-written with Brian Muirhead of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, former Flight Systems Manager for the Mars Pathfinder mission, Chief Architect of NASA’s Project Constellation to establish a permanent outpost on the Moon in preparation for human expeditions to Mars, and now JPL’s Chief Engineer.
In addition to their work in television, Judith and Garfield are New York and Los Angeles Times bestselling authors whose novel, ICEFIRE, was praised by Stephen King as “a hardwired, totally riveting, dare-you-to-put-it-down story of disaster, heroism, and suspense. There’s no need for techno-thriller fans to wait for the next Clancy or Coonts; ICEFIRE is the best suspense novel of its type since THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER.” Judith and Garfield conducted some of their research for ICEFIRE during an expedition to Antarctica on assignment for Microsoft’s “Wild Lit” series of adventure-travel articles for the Internet. Among the eleven other bestselling authors selected by Microsoft for this series were Amy Tan, Clive Cussler, Tom Robbins, Ed McBain, Tama Janowitz, and Nelson DeMille.
Their newest book, WRAITH, is a chilling tale of rogue technology, conspiracy, and supernatural suspense, revealing how classified government research into remote viewing has spawned a terrifying new form of warfare: Ghosts have been weaponized. WRAITH will be published in April 2016, by Thomas Dunne Books, an imprint of St. Martin’s Press.
Their previous novel from Thomas Dunne is SEARCH, is a novel of “forbidden history,” featuring the writing team’s unique blend of cutting-edge science and unrelenting suspense in a breathtaking race to uncover the secret origins of human civilization. Publishers Weekly said, “This fine archaeological quest novel smoothly blends a fast-moving fantasy plot with a solid scientific backdrop... Smart, suspenseful writing and a clever concept add up to a compelling read.”
In genre media, Judith and Garfield are perhaps best known as writer/producers on the fourth season of ENTERPRISE, for which AintItCool.com called their episode, “The Forge,” “not only the best episode of ENTERPRISE, but the best episode of STAR TREK” Well-known to the Star Trek community, the couple have written four acclaimed non-fiction books detailing the production history of the franchise, and appear in the supplementary DVD material that accompanies the release of Robert Wise’s director’s edition of STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE, as well as providing commentaries for the Blu-Ray editions of STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE and STAR TREK: THE FINAL FRONTIER.
In the world of features, Judith and Garfield have recently brought their love of sci-fi worldbuilding and epic storytelling to two classic genre franchises. For the Goddard Film Group, they have delivered the first feature script of a proposed trilogy based on Jerry Pournelle’s classic interplanetary military sci-fi novel series, JANISSARIES. For Kirin Media Ventures and George Paige Entertainment, they have also delivered the first script for a trilogy of movies based on Andre Norton’s bestselling WITCH WORLD franchise.
Judith and Garfield began their writing careers as science and technology educators; have served on a NASA Space Policy Workshop with “distinguished forward-thinking individuals” including Director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Dr. Charles Elachi, NASA Chief Scientist, astronaut John Grunsfeld, and filmmaker James Cameron; and have worked with the Disney Imagineers as “Lead Land Writers” to develop concepts, stories, and attractions for the new SHANGHAI DISNEYLAND theme park opening in 2016.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2013Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseMy title says this because I was kind of peeved at the delivery speed of which it took for this book to arrive. I mean two weeks after ordering? Kind of glad it didn't get confused with my Christmas deliveries.
That being said, this book is of amazing quality for such a low, low price. The book is in such great condition that this book could have still been sold for very near close its initial price.
And the CONTENT, oh wow. Compared to the entire history of Star Trek fan culture, I am but a babe. But I have seen all the movies and TOS through Voyager and coincidentally this book covers all that in terms of the art. Such lovely pictures and stories behind them, I didn't think something like this could be so informative. Any fan of Star Trek would be happy with this book, I know I am :D
- Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2023Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseReally enjoyed reading a hardcover book with pictures. Doesn’t happen too often anymore. Obviously lots of research and care went into this publication.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 22, 2013Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseTo be honest, my five star rating is influenced by the price as I bought it used for only a couple of dollar. But that said, this is a very nice book - bigger and of better quality that I expected with tons of artwork, photos and some interesting back story. Maybe not a whole lot new if you have an extensive trek collection, but a lot of rarities as well.
Note - only covers up through Star Trek VI of the movies, and does precedes "Enterprise" the TV series.
Fun addition to your sci-fi bookshelf.
4 stars regardless of price, 5 if you can score a good used deal.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2014Format: KindleVerified PurchaseA great book for the deepest rooted Trek Fan whose fascinated by the creativity it all sprouted from. I really wish the photos were larger and there were more of them, especially the work of Matt Jeffries. But it's a reader, not a coffee table art book. I just wish there was one like that too. The E book version doesn't offer anything more or anything more attractive that the regular book (no hi-res zoomable) photos or highlights. It's exactly as if the paper book had been scanned page by page. Nothing wrong with that, I had just hoped for a little more to see. But it is a quality item an well worth the money.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2014Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseMy mother had this when I was a teenager and I always loved to look at it. Finally had to get my own copy and it was so worth it. Lots of fascinating information into the world of Star Trek, a must for any Trekkie, or anyone who appreciates good art that had such an impact on pop culture!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2006Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThis book has some of the best artwork that was made for the first four Star Trek series and some of the movies. It has photographs of the sets and props as well as diagrams of the ships, including Klingon and Romulan vessels, the movie and series Enterprises, and even Voyager. The book follows a plan which views the art history of Star Trek from the pilot film "The Cage" to "Star Trek: Voyager". You'll love this book if you're a Star Trek fan!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 14, 2015Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseIf you enjoy Star Trek, you owe it to yourself to pick up this book. It is full of behind the scenes insight and filled with some truly out of this world art.

Cliente AmazonReviewed in Brazil on February 14, 20163.0 out of 5 stars Vale pelo conteúdo, mas a visualização deixa a desejar
Rob RossReviewed in the United Kingdom on October 11, 20185.0 out of 5 stars A delight.
That should read "A Trekkies delight", (sorry, I'm English, and I hate the term Trekker). Lots of never-before -seen photographs and drawings from the original series and on to the crossover film. There are a few snippets of info that aren't generally known, although some bits have been covered in various other publications. On the whole, a very interesting look at what makes a series or film (or, indeed, a series of films) work from the standpoint of the production artists.

Andrydex TalotoReviewed in Italy on January 31, 20225.0 out of 5 stars Libro enciclopedico, perfetto per veri collezionisti del genere
