1) the original was in folio, but in Richardson's version the plates have been reduced in size by about a half;
2) although the plates are in colour, the scanning is less than ideal so that much detail in the original is barely discernable;
3) in the original the male figure was shown in his entire glory, but in the Richardson version, the male in plates XI, XIX, XXI & XXIV has been neutered!
I bought this copy because my English Folio edition has rather extensive foxing, and i thought that perhaps Richardson's colour version would compliment it nicely. Wrong! I should mention that Mr. Richardson has added a useful introduction.
For anyone interested in buying a copy of Fau's atlas, get the Dover reprint. Yes, it's in black & white, and the paper is cheap, but at least it's about the same size as the original, it isn't doctored, and it has a bonus CD-ROM of the plates.
