This is a thoughtful look into the 5 seasons of an outstanding Nickelodeon 2012 TMNT series. You’ll find artwork with a taste for nostalgia, classic TMNT, nerdy homages, and a heap of original ideas too. A lot of hard work was put into this book and it does a great job at highlighting how much hard work was put into the show itself. You get a little bit of everything but there is a great focus to mutant characters with snippets of what inspired the final look. Anything not written in explanation can be extrapolated from the backdrop images of doodles and notes from Ciro and the artists. I think the production crew's (shout out to interns, assistants, coordinators, managers, producers!) wide overview of the show can attest to the sheer amount of art catalogued and passed through the pipeline, even if this thick book couldn't fit all the other amazing pieces. Even so, the book is robust and doesn’t disappoint for fans of the Nickelodeon 2012 series looking to know more about the rich world of this iteration of TMNT. Now if only we could get the series on BluRay!!

An amazing artbook loaded with love and detail for the 2012 Ninja Turtles series. I've been a TMNT fan for literally 30 years and the 2012 show is my favorite TV version of the characters. I know that's terrapin blasphemy to some out there, but it's true. The 2012 series showed such love and appreciation to what came before it, referencing it, and recreating scenes from the 1990 movie and the comics, etc... it was fantastic. And seeing all the creativity that was poured into it from behind the scenes in this book makes me appreciate the series even more. A must have for fans of the 2012 series.

I love Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and especially the Nickelodeon cartoon from 2012. It was the version of the show that I grew up with and is basically what got me wanting to do animation for a career. When I found out that they were doing this artbook, I was absolutely delighted. For the most part, I think Dark Horse did a bang-up job on giving fans great insight into the creation of this wonderful show. So much content from character sketches to concept art
illustrations and storyboards. It's not without faults, though. I wasn't a huge fan of the structure of the content, and if you're going to pick this up, be warned that everything is kinda collaged in there with no rhyme or reason. Sections are broken up, but unfortunately it's a lot more scattered than I was expecting. Still worth the price, imo, but it is an issue to be sure.

Although I was around when the first animated TMNT came out, this incarnation of the Turtles is by far my favorite. Aside from the great storytelling and clever pop culture references, the visual style was a major hook for me. I had waited for this book to come out since I watched the first season of TMNT and it’s all I hoped for. This book is an eye-candy explosion. It includes pretty much everything from concept development to every visual aspect of all seasons of TMNT. Characters, backgrounds, machines, weapons... even background posters and signs you may not have noticed where there. I can’t recommend this book enough.
