Top customer reviews
The art is good. There are lots of detailed artworks for character designs, storyboards, props and loot, weapons and environments. The layout is nice, pictures are big and clear. There are also commentary from the creators.
Garrett's the main guy so you get to see him up close, the face, the strings-buckles everywhere clothes, bow and different arrow heads and his moves. Other characters are covered quite well also.
Most of the environment art I think are drawn or rendered quite big, then scaled down for publication so the results are rather detailed artworks. Quite a few seems to be digital paint over 3D models, but they are done exceptionally well to capture the lighting and mood.
The main thing about this artbook is the extremely bleak setting, which reminds me of of the game Dark Souls. Everything feels grim. The colour palette is generally black, blue and some brown. It's always cloudy, hazy. The town is constantly shrouded in dim lighting. The atmosphere is art directed very well.
Overall, it's a pretty good artbook, just that the overall bleakness may or may not be to your liking.

My favourite sections were The Characters and The City. The characters and their concepts were cool. I really enjoyed reading about where the creators came up with their ideas and what influenced them. I nearly salivated at the concept art for the backgrounds and locations. That part alone was what made me purchase this book. Totally worth it. Like I said, I like seeing what influenced the concept artists ideas. One paragraph stated that the concept artist Mathieur Latour-Duhaime kept seeing riots in Quebec from students protesting not far from their studio, and how that it was perfect timing for inspiration designing the bridge. That was awesome. I really enjoy things like that.
I'm also a HUGE fan of dark, gloomy, matte artwork. I find it damn near orgasmic. So this book hit the spot for me, haha. Wonderful art and great commentary by the creators/artists. Five stars.
I enjoyed the game, Thief, and this book is a gem to anyone else who had fun playing the game.
Every page contains detailed illustrations and explanations of how the world of Thief was made, from the characters, to the Loot, through the grimy alleyways and over the dark rooftops of The City. There are original sketches as well as the finished designs. There is an entire section in Garrett's chapter that shows the workings of his hands. The hand designs alone are breath-taking, and the fact that he was originally planned to have black fingernails was a neat little sidenote.
A good find for any fan of the series or anyone who just likes the Victorian/Industrialist style of the game's world.
I honestly enjoyed the game. The graphics and style were amazing and as someone who likes to collect things from my favorite games I had to add this to my collection the moment I saw it. It did not disappoint. The art inside is fantastic and I loved seeing how the went about making the world of Thief. I also liked how they gave a detailed listing of different fabrics they used while creating Garrett's clothes; a handy reference for anyone setting out to try to create it.
