About the Author

Jeff Limke was raised in North Dakota. His Graphic Myths and Legends work includes King Arthur: Excalibur Unsheathed, Isis & Osiris: To the Ends of the Earth, Thor & Loki: In the Land of Giants, Jason: Quest for the Golden Fleece, Theseus: Battling the Minotaur, and Arthur & Lancelot: The Fight for Camelot. Other stories have been published by Caliber Comics, Arrow Comics, and Kenzer and Company.

Thomas Yeates's art training began in high school and continued at Utah State University and Sacramento State. Subsequently, he was a member of the first class at Joe Kubert's School, a trade program for aspiring comic book artists in New Jersey. Yeates has worked as an illustrator for DC Comics, Marvel, Dark Horse, and many other companies. For Graphic Myths and Legends, he illustrated King Arthur: Excalibur Unsheathed, Robin Hood: Outlaw of Sherwood Forest, and Atalanta: Race Against Destiny. Yeates lives in Northern California with his wife and daughter.

    Sir Thomas Malory (c. 1415-18 – 14 March 1471) was an English writer, the author or compiler of Le Morte d'Arthur. Since the late nineteenth century, he has generally been identified as Sir Thomas Malory of Newbold Revel in Warwickshire, a knight, land-owner, and Member of Parliament. Previously, it was suggested by antiquary John Leland and John Bale that he was Welsh (identifying "Malory" with "Maelor"). Occasionally, other candidates are put forward for authorship of Le Morte d'Arthur, but the supporting evidence for their claim has been described as "no more than circumstantial".

The story is King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table are probably the most popular and most read of all the English legends. Robin Hood and his merry men probably comes in a close second. I have read numerous versions of this story in the past, as well as having seen many movies, and the play “Camelot” several times.

When I saw this graphic novel version (Arthur & Lancelot: The fight for Camelot by Jeff Limke and Thomas Yeates) on Amazon I immediately purchased it. This version pretty much follows the standard King Arthur tale of his brave and loyal Knights. His best friend and most skillful knight is Sir Lancelot who fights often protecting the honor of the King and his wife Guinevere.

There are seven parts in this volume. The world’s best knight, the Winchester tournament, foul Sir Meligrance, by Knights betrayed, a shamed knight, the search for Sir Lancelot, Escape to joyous Gard. There is also a glossary and pronunciation guide, further reading and websites and an index section.

If you love graphic novels and the legendary King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table tale, you will want to check out this text. The graphics are excellent in this book.

The only thing I could say against this story is that it may have too many words in the bubbles and narrations for low language proficiency learners. It suits advanced learners well. Nevertheless, it has good material for comprehension instruction strategies and it is well structured. We have to appreciate someone who is willing to dedicate more than one volume to the King Arthur legends and stories. It would be interesting to see Sir Gawain and the Green Knight in graphic format in this collection of Graphic Legends.

"Arthur & Lancelot: The Fight for Camelot," is a 48 paged comic interpretation of some of the Arthurian Legends; specifically the tales that detail the tragic triangle of England's King Arthur, his cherished wife Queen Guinivere, and his best friend, the great knight Lancelot. Written by Jeff Limke and illustrated by Thomas Yeates, this book is part of a series of "Graphic Myths and Legends" published by the Lerner Publishing Group and Millbrook Press, Inc. It is also a sequel to another book in this series,  King Arthur: King Arthur: Excalibur Unsheathed (Graphic Myths and Legends) ; produced by the same creative duo of Limke and Yeates.

As this graphic novel begins:

"King Arthur had ruled England for many years, and his subjects loved him. His court at Camelot was a wondrous place. It had taken much work and much time, but England was now at peace."

However, that peace did not extend into Camelot itself. Jealous intrigues threatened to undermine all that the noble King Arthur had accomplished as monarch of England. The center of these plots were aimed at Gunivere, Arthur's lovely and beloved Queen, and Sir Lancelot, the King's closest friend and greatest of the Knights of the Round Table. "The Fight for Camelot" relates how these three heroic figures struggled to keep the ideals of Camelot alive, even as the emotional bond they shared is used to bring down the kingdom they helped create.

"Arthur & Lancelot" is an engaging comic version of the tales of Camelot. Mr. Limke and Mr. Yeates continue the fine work on retelling the Arthurian Legends they began in their previous book in the series, "King Arthur: Excalibur Unsheathed." Mr. Limke's story seems to flow better in this volume than the earlier book, even though the tale of these legendary characters still seems to fly by when one reads it. This fan of the legends of King Arthur would have liked to linger a while and enjoy the rich artistic storytelling of Mr. Yeates. These graphic novels must have been a great proving ground for the veteran comic artist, for after he contributed his talents to the "Graphic Universe" book series, Mr. Yeates would go on to become the artist of the ultimate Arthurian comic series, the "Prince Valiant" newspaper comic strip, starting in 2012.

As I stated in my review of the "King Arthur" comic novel, these two books can be considered excellent companion pieces to the "Prince Valiant" comic strip. Mr. Yeates' contributions to all three of these comic versions of the classic tales of the Knights of the Round Table offer readers of all ages enchanting and entertaining reading of a time long ago, still revered to this day.

"Arthur & Lancelot: The Fight for Camelot" comes well recommended.

It's okay, but it didn't tell the whole story. the drawings are pretty good,though. they had no mention of Morgan, also.
