I was triggered to buy the book as I saw it included not just "this is AI and how you should prepare for the future", but also addressed such niche AI topics in B2B services as Predictive Maintenance, which is transforming ERP and EAM solutions used by large industrial corporations. This breath of topics appealed to me.
In approach, this book is a collection of a variety of questions. It appears, Rouhiainen wants to address several types of readers. Therefore, the book includes, for example, "what should you do" types of self-help advice, as well as large theoretical (and surely, to some readers taste, too abstract sections), alleviated and supported by a collection of accompanying visualizations.
In a sense, this book can be called be Rouhiainen's main work until now. Comparing to his previous titles, this one stems from a larger research and Rouhiainen documents well his sources of insight and inspiration, as shown in the number of footnotes.
With that said, this isn't my favorite of Rouhiainen's published works. I give it a high rating especially for thoroughness, breath of topics and for actually giving me several actionable tips. However, the book is "hard to swallow" because the authors intentions are not clearly stated in the beginning.
If I were to re-edit the book, I would focus on the introduction more and building the structure accordingly. I hope Rouhiainen will sequel the book for several niche markets such as educators, students, professionals, and business owners among others. Also, within B2B services there would several interesting Fields to cover in more detail.
I’m quite familiar with chatbots and how useful they are, but still learned many key concepts and strategies related to chatbot marketing in chapter 4. I also found chapters 6 (self-driving cars) and 7 (robots) extremely insightful and interesting. This is without a doubt the most important book I have read recently and I highly recommend it to everyone.
When you are approaching 60 years old (from the wrong direction!) All of this techy stuff seems to be for the young people.
But I have been following Lasse's work for close to 15 years and everything else he has written rings my bell. He explains things so thoroughly and yet so simply. So I thought I would give it a go. My goodness, I had no idea how much AI technology is already here and we are already using it...even me. Living in Spain, I use Google Translate every day. That's an early form of AI. This book not only explains the emergence of AI as a mainstream phenomenon right now, but also what the future holds for us members of society who plan to be around for the next 30 years or more and what it can mean to us in real terms. There are dozens of links in the book to help expand your knowledge and awareness. I have to confess, it's totally fascinating. When you have finished the book, you will feel like Captain Kirk on the bridge of The Starship Eneterprise, ready to go where no man has gone before! It's an amazing book explaining our amazing future!
Profound insights all the way from business to robotics and everything in between. I particularly liked the section about how AI will affect my own field, sales and marketing.
And you wont believe what he has to say about AI and politics... (by the way, it's not what you think)
Not only was it useful for my own career, but the content in Lasse's book is something everyone should read and know, whether you're a student or a seasoned professional.
Of course this kind of book ages fast - we now know Facebook has shut down it’s ambitious M experiment, for instance.
Well worth a read through, this is.
I personally liked the chapters on chatbots and job market changes - both very timely issues, affecting everyone!
If you want to find out how AI will affect your industry and your life, and how to prepare for it - you must read this book by Lasse Rouhiainen.
