Product Description

Artisan Tropic Sea Salt Plantain Chips are a taste of the tropics. They provide the perfect crunch for a healthy snack or side dish. Because of the long strip cut they have, they are perfect for dipping in guacamole or salsa. And no worries, we use Sea Salt to provide you with more beneficial minerals! Plantains are a type of resistant starch, which is a type of starch that is not digested in the stomach or small intestine, reaching the colon intact. Thus, it "resists" digestion. This explains why we do not see spikes in either blood glucose or insulin after eating RS.

These chips are super tasty. They are crispy and have just the right amount of salt. We received them in a subscription box of gluten free snacks and I was very happy to see them since I eat paleo and most gluten free items have way too much "junk" (sugars and bad oils) in them for me to partake.
Why knock off a star? Because of the price. It's insane. Do yourself a favor and get Inka Chips - they have the same ingredients (plantain chips, red palm oil and salt) and cost much less. Most healthier grocery stores (like Sprouts) carry them for around $2-3 per bag. And I will let you in on a secret...if you have a Big Lots store in your area, you can get them for $1 a bag!

I got these in February's Love with Food box and I liked them a lot. I'm very happy to learn the palm oil they are cooked in is sustainably harvested. And even though they are "sea salt" flavored, they are not particularly high in sodium. They are pretty starchy but they do have nearly 1/3 of your recommended fiber intake in one serving! (You can see the full nutrition facts panel by zooming in on the product images.)

I thought the texture was good. These were crunchy and not stale, but a little thicker than a potato chip (makes sense -- these have relatively more fiber and less starch than a potato, plus much of what starch they do have is "resistant," so good for feeding gut bacteria and unlikely to cause insulin spikes). They did kind of break apart during transit, unfortunately.

I love how simple the ingredients list is -- plantains, palm oil, salt. These are vegan, gluten free, non-GMO, and produced in a nut-free facility, if you have any dietary restrictions.

Kind of high in calories, but most plantain chips are. Overall, a tasty alternative to potato chips with some good nutritional qualities thrown in.

my only complaint about these is that the bag is too small. I don't mean this to insult the company...I mean it because I am a pig and could eat the entire bag at one sitting! They are light, crisp, have good oil in them, and are just the right thing to much alone (as in, when no one else is home) or with a bowl of guacamole. Addictive!!

Product arrived in small pieces instead of
The beautiful strips I was expecting.
Taste was great, but I could not use them for the appetizer they were intended for.
Not a product that ships well apparently

At first I wasn't sure about them, but now I am in love! I like them even better than Cassava chips. They have a very unique taste, but they are very tasty! :-) Not to mention they are healthier than potato chips.

I have tried different brands of Plantain strips or chips and these are definitely the best. They have a great taste and great texture. Will be buying again.

I have always had a problem finding plantation chips locally, so I decided to order some online based on the reviews. This was one of two plantain products I purchased. The chips are very tasty and crispy and I am 100% pleased! However, I will say that I prefer the other plantain chips better than these for two reasons. They cost less and were just as good if not better, and they came in 12 individual packages, which keeps me from over eating them as easily.

In my humble opinion these are the best of the plantain strips on the market available to us in the USA. To me, they are not as greasy, and have the crunch I need. Not as dry as some I have tasted. I know some folks complain about salt when it comes to these types of snacks, but I want salt on my crunch treats. Great alternative to potatoes for those who cannot have nightshade veggies. Also important that the oil is compatible with the autoimmune diet.
