This is the perfect watercolor set for those beautiful Painterly Days watercolor books. I think the author even has them on her materials list. That says something great right there.
PS the Painterly Days books are sold on amazon and are just perfect with these. Especially if you get stuck on what to draw or paint. The pictures I've included are pages I've painted in those books.
The brush is terrible and would likely only lead to frustration, so I recommend you toss it and get yourself a decent one in order to really enjoy these paints. I have found that the Princeton Snap brushes (which can be found here on Amazon with a quick search) are a steal at their price point for the quality of the brush, in my opinion. They hold their shape well, snap back beautifully, and even on the larger brush sizes they have a super fine tip that can be used for even the finest of detail work if desired.
The one thing I realized soon after my first painting was that those professionals were using high-quality watercolor paints. These are definitely more for the casual painter. For me that's fine, I'm not particularly good anyways, but replicating what they're doing can be pretty difficult. These paints are cakey, and require water to be usable. Simply rubbing a dry brush over them won't do anything. This can make some textures and patterns I saw near impossible to do.
That said, the colors are really lovely and I have had a lot of fun with them. I am very happy with my purchase, it's just this misunderstanding made my first couple of paintings look kind of crappy.
