    Not really 36 colors
Many of the color are very similar. Being generous, it's more like 24 colors. It was a challenge to get any amount of color onto the set of watercolor brushes I also bought. I made a swatch page on heavy, toothy watercolor paper (attached)A friend explained that pan watercolors have a lot of binder in them, and these don't have much pigment. They're "okay" but I recommend buying 3-5 watercolor tubes, in the primaries. Then you can mix all the colors and they will have more pigment in them. These could be frustrating for someone trying to learn how to paint in watercolor.

In so far as cheap watercolor sets for hobbyists or amateurs; this is 100% my go to. I'm not a pro or anything, but I do watercolor in my spare time, and I'm always looking for decent materials at low prices. Previously I used a near identical palette by Loew Cornell, that's about $5 cheaper (I got this for $9 and change, and the Loew Cornell palette was about $5 and change if I remember correctly), usually when doing comparisons with these sorts of products marketed towards amateurs (typically children) the actual quality of the product tends to be the same, and the packaging or branding is the only discernible difference. This palatte is worth the $5 more; the packaging is sturdy and the plastic doesn't give way, the brush it comes with is standard and would work if you didn't have anything else, the paint is very pigmented (would probably stain brushes), and they blend nicely with each other (esp. compared to the LC palette), they apply smooth and I really like the variety of colors. I will say that there is no true red, and that these are still amateur quality paints, but overall would definitely buy again. Good for beginners, children, or hobbyists and good for experimenting without coughing up a lot of money.

For a cheap watercolor pan, these work fantastically. Almost all of the colors are vibrant, and if not, you just need to find the right water to color ratio to have more pigment. I sampled them on dry water color paper using a wet tip on my brush. Some of the most beautiful colors turned out to be the dark brown, dark purple, sky blue, and orange. The red is not very dark but a better, deeper shade can be achieved by mixing some brown in it. Yes, the colors are a little chalky but that doesn't really matter. As long as your not going to be rubbing things directly on the paper or crinkling, (which you shouldn't be doing anyway), the colors stay perfectly fine. Overall, they're great, cheap, and a 4/5!

I bought this as part of a Christmas gift for a friend of mine who likes to paint. I had bought this exact set myself locally before, but the last time I was at that store, they were sold out of this set (and I'm not surprised, it's a great set)! This set is self-contained, and even includes the brush you need to get started (just add water and watercolor paper), although I did buy her some extra brushes as well to go along with the one that comes with the set. Most of the colors are the same as the Artist's Loft craft paint, which is great as well. I'd buy this set again and again, and since it keeps selling out at my local stores, I'll likely keep buying it here!

I like this product. I am learning how to watercolor and bought a small set of paints. Well there were only a few colors and I wanted a few more but I don't want to spend a lot of money. This popped up and it has a lot of pretty paints plenty to use for most anything I will paint. I am not an expert at all but for me these are nice, vibrant and pretty colors. I love the case too, keeps everything together, keeps the paints covered and neatly packaged. The price seems reasonable too. If you are a beginner I say you should be happy with these. I am pretty sure even an expert might find these paints to be worthy. I will buy again if I paint enough to run out of paint.

This set has a ton of bright and vibrant colors, however almost every single one is chalky if you attempt to layer or build. They do not mix well, often you'll have a muddy result so these are best for someone who wants a more straightforward experience with watercolor. In my experience these also do not glaze, and the pigments are cheap and full of binders so adding water doesn't lessen the vibrance, just makes for "paint water".

All in all, I wish I had just spent the extra $10 on a slightly better set. As you can see, my painting turned out well and the colors are quite vivid, but the overall look is very chalky (check out the coverage over her hands; cloudy instead of clear). When I ran my fingertips over the dry, finished piece, they were covered in paint. They also caused me to overwork my paper quite a bit.
