Many of the songs in this CD are main-stream american classics. I do not know if these were old recordings, hoping to cash in on Tony Bennett's renewed popularity, or they are new recordings.
In any case, there is no enthusiasm, energy in these songs, compared to some of his previous classics.

What to make of this? That was the first question I asked myself. Maybe there's an audience for the old standards (most from before 1960) of the Great American Songbook? Perhaps there are still some listeners for whom the audio on CDs is preferable to the compressed frequencies of iTunes and Amazon downloaded files? Perhaps a real, physical CD makes for a better Valentine's gift than an e-mail with a musical download attached to it? Or just possibly Amazon has accidentally tapped into a rich if neglected and misunderstood vein of music extending back to Irving Berlin's "Alexander's Ragtime Band" and to the 19th-century precursors of the music that would come together with such force in Berlin's creative brain.Read more ›
