The price of this CD was very attractive, the main reason I ordered it.
Many of the songs in this CD are main-stream american classics. I do not know if these were old recordings, hoping to cash in on Tony Bennett's renewed popularity, or they are new recordings.
In any case, there is no enthusiasm, energy in these songs, compared to some of his previous classics.

Found the sound very tinny - not pleasant to the ear. Problem is not with artist but with sound system.

This album is great fun, well produced, high quality sound, very good sampling of Tony Bennett's unique gift. Got a great price on amazon, and been enjoying this every since. Tony Bennett fans will thoroughly enjoy this compilation of the master, who'll be 87 in August, 2013. This fellow is an American treasure. Saw him recently in concert, still great!

This is a wonderful collection of songs from the performers long career. The choice of selections is wonderful, particularly the Cole Porter medley; the reproduction quality is good and the pricing from Amazon is fantastic. If you are a fan of the music, this album is a must have. If you are a fan of Tony Bennett, this album will remind you that your original judgement was a "no brainer".

As Danny Thomas used to say, "If I could sing like Tony Bennett, I'd get my nose fixed." Me, I'd shave off my beard. A great compilation of Classics.

If you like Tony, you will like this album. Some of the recordings sound like they came out of a tin studio.

So now that Apple has sold individual downloads equaling the total population of the planet (a recent published statistic), where does it go from here? At least for the time being, apparently down (the stock has plummeted 25% since September). But noting a similar drop in sales--above all, of "hard-copy" CD albums--what does Amazon's Jef Bezos do? Does he play defense, guarding revenues while hoping for the slump to "self-correct"? Hardly! Instead, this fiercely competitive CEO and tireless consumer advocate has ramped up the offense and gone proactive by offering a collection of timeless classics--the so-called "standards" from the "Great American Songbook" (a specific historical term, not an evaluative one)--as performed by its leading living exponent since the passing of both Ole Blue (Frank) and Mel in 1998. The result? As I'm writing this review, "As Time Goes By: Great American Songbook Classics" is showing #1 in at least three of the following Amazon categories for music sales: 1. Jazz; 2. Vocal Jazz; 3. Broadway and Vocalists; 4. Vocal Pop; 5. Popular Music.

What to make of this? That was the first question I asked myself. Maybe there's an audience for the old standards (most from before 1960) of the Great American Songbook? Perhaps there are still some listeners for whom the audio on CDs is preferable to the compressed frequencies of iTunes and Amazon downloaded files? Perhaps a real, physical CD makes for a better Valentine's gift than an e-mail with a musical download attached to it? Or just possibly Amazon has accidentally tapped into a rich if neglected and misunderstood vein of music extending back to Irving Berlin's "Alexander's Ragtime Band" and to the 19th-century precursors of the music that would come together with such force in Berlin's creative brain.
