Dr. Pip Lipkin has lived for 12,000 years, incarnated many times as man, woman, and even as species beyond our world and senses. But he's here for a reason: to pay restitution for an ancient crime by working to save humanity from certain destruction. Ascending Spiral is a book that will take the reader to many different places and times, showing, ultimately, that our differences and divisions, even at their most devastating, are less important than our similarities.
Reviewers' Acclaim:
"Bob Rich powerfully evokes the wounded healer archetype in Ascending Spiral, taking readers on Pip's painful and insightful journey through lifetimes that serve as a shining example of how to turn misery into virtue."
--Diane Wing, author, Coven: Scrolls of the Four Winds
"Dr. Bob Rich's Ascending Spiral is a true genre-buster, incorporating elements of historical fiction, literary fiction, science fiction, and even a hint of nonfiction to create an entertaining novel with an important message."
Magdalena Ball, CompulsiveReader.com
"The way of karma rings true for many people, and this book is a very well written and thoughtful explanation of its message. It is also an exciting, historically accurate series of linked stories that will hold the reader in his chair for a single sitting. Highly recommended."
Frances Burke, author of Endless Time

About the author

Dr Bob Rich doesn’t actually exist, but is a figment of his computer’s imagination. Mind you, this is no ordinary computer. You can inspect its work by reading about Bob’s life in the last century at
http://bobswriting.com/bobrich.html
and in this century at his blog, Bobbing Around:

There, you’ll find out that he has retired 5 times, from 5 different occupations. He still writes, and is a professional editor for several small publishers and a steady stream of writers, but his most important activity is as a Professional Grandfather. He has hundreds of grandkids all over Earth. Many first contact him with an email of desperation. His words often make a difference, and a long term friendship may start as a result.
Because he wants all these grandchildren to have a future, and a future worth living in, he is a passionate environmental and humanitarian campaigner. If you don’t want a future of beauty, harmony, compassion, caring and justice, then GO AWAY!
Currently, Bob is running a free book edit contest. One writer can earn the free edit of a full-length manuscript. Submissions are now closed. The public will soon be invited to vote for the 10 shortlisted entries. Details are at

His (currently) 17 published books uniformly attract high ratings and excellent reviews. One misguided reviewer awarded 3 stars to one book. All the rest are 5 stars, with a sprinkling of 4 stars.
The latest book, “Hit and Run” came out in May, 2018. The previous, “Guardian Angel” was published in late 2017.
So, as you can see, Bob’s computer has done a pretty good job of fooling the world. Its latest production, “From Depression to Contentment: A self-therapy guide” is currently with the publisher, and there is a science fiction series on the way.

Rather than gather these views into a kind of memoir, Bob Rich devises several fictional characters, describing their lives. These people interact in a kind of network with others, returning as relatives, enemies, friends or lovers to work through unfinished business. This suggestion sits comfortably within my own belief system. The deja vue experience, or meeting of minds or hearts, is familiar to me, as to many others.
The lives through which one individual passes vary. Gender may change; even human form. A space creature or a walking plant are offered as possibilities for learning, but the humans seem more plausible. The Irishman Dermot O’Halloran’s path from violence and murder to transportation as a NSW convict is graphically depicted. We glimpse changes as he improves his life as a free man, but he is unable to overcome his violence and is killed.
His next incarnation is as Amelia Poole, a genteel young woman who is married off to Charles McQuade. Amelia is ignorant of the facts of life, and her shock is not eased by the brutal assault of her totally insensitive husband. She suffers his excesses for her entire married life and is only released when Mr McQuade dies after a long marriage of loveless emptiness. Amelia is the most convincing character in the cast. Her disgust is well conveyed, as is her friendship with local aboriginal women.
Following her death, and a further meeting with her spirit guide, she is reborn, this time as a Hungarian man, Pip Lipkin. By this time, I found the dislocation to yet another character was challenging. This character is introduced to us via episodic memories somewhat like diary notes. After many difficult experiences, Pip undergoes forms of regression, understands the root causes of his repressed nature, and comes to a belief that his message could save mankind from self-destruction. His grief at the selfish and immature assault on our planet is perfectly valid. All the issues we face at a global level are absolutely real. Fortunately, Pip does practise what he preaches, and his message offers hope of a kind. The reader of “Ascending Spiral” should not expect a conventional novel, although the work is presented through imagined characters as fiction. It’s hard to classify. One thing stands out. The author has thought deeply and cares for the planet and our possible ride towards self-destruction.
Fans of Michael Newton will resonate with and appreciate this in-depth exploration of a soul's journey over multiple lifetimes.
Whether or not Shakespeare intended to support the idea of reincarnation when he wrote those famous words, the quote does give us food for thought. What if we do come back to be born again and again in many different lifetimes, spanning centuries, often joining other members of our ‘soul family’ to enact dramas upon the world stage in order to learn the lessons our souls need in order to grow and advance spiritually? And if this is true, then we each have a story to tell similar to the one Bob Rich shares with us in his wonderful adventure of a book, Ascending Spiral.
Whatever your beliefs on the subject of past lives might be, you will enjoy this incredible tale with its fast moving pace and engrossing story of a soul’s progress through the ages, incarnating sometimes as a man and then as a woman, and even once as an intelligent plant. In each case the eternal soul endures, learning from each lifetime and ultimately growing through the challenges and experiences.
Whether this soul was all powerful as Dermot, or vulnerable and as powerless as the Space Flower or the lovely tragic Amelia, this soul’s true love appeared in each of these lifetimes to share the struggle and deliver the lesson.
Then finally as Pip, the curious Buddhist with a Masters in Counseling Psychology, he finds answers as to why he had to live through all of this adventure. In hypnotherapy with another psychologist, Caroline, a soul revealed to be from one of his past lives he discovers the reason for his expanded consciousness and ability to remember into a past the average person can only imagine.
This brilliant book is the result. The author, a conservationist for most all of this lifetime, is here to help save our injured planet from extinction. His ultimate message: “My task is to inspire you to want a future for your kids, your grandkids, and their grandkids in perpetuity. Change “I want happiness now” to “I want a decent life for me, you and everyone else in harmony,” and we’re on the way.”
I recommend Ascending Spiral to everyone as there is much to learn here, and the realization that our existence on the planet is absolutely in question without immediate change is the greatest motivation of all. I give Ascending Spiral five stars.
As Shakespeare said: “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players: they have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts, his acts being seven ages.”
