So begins A.S. Fenichel’s adventurous novel—the first in the Demon Hunters series—and what follows is a page-turning blend of historical romance, fantasy, and mystery, mixed with steamy passion.
Soon Gabriel discovers that Belinda has joined forces with an army of demon hunters to battle the evil hordes overtaking Great Britain. He enlists on the effort, and together they confront a force that might tear them apart. The combat takes them to Scotland, where Belinda unearths a dark family secret, and risks her life to destroy a demon sect.
I strongly recommend this novel. Hidden below the intrigue and bloodshed is a deeper message, connecting the shadowy demons lurking in Belinda’s England to the evil hidden in our own world. Its heart-pounding action, romantic hero, stereotype-breaking heroine--stronger and more adept at fighting than most men--will have you looking forward to the next installment in the series.
The heroine was kidnapped by demons but was rescued. She becomes a warrior woman and a demon slayer. Her fiance returns from the war thinking he will reunite with his sweet girl and they will marry. Her odd behavior toward him makes him spy on her activities.
Once she shows him what she can do as well as what creatures she fights he joins the group.
There is a question about the heroine's father and his refusal to leave his estate in Scotland, but it really isn't much of a mystery.
There is an abundance of sex, so if the reader finds that off putting you have been warned.
I simply didn't find the story to be riveting. The characters just stayed flat on the pages, even the supernatural didn't make them jump out.
Lady Belinda Carlisle trained to be a demon hunter while her betrothed, Lord Gabriel Thurston, was at war on the continent. When Gabriel returns and finds out what Belinda is up to, he is both concerned and fascinated.
Demons are alive and well and living in London. The good thing is they are not very smart. The bad thing is, there are a lot of them. And, by they way, they have a master that is trying to enter earth's dimension so he can take over the world.
As Belinda and Gabriel join to battle demons, they explore their relationship. Gabriel is determined that Belinda will marry him. Belinda loves him but she doesn't believe that Gabriel will want a demon hunting wife.
In the beginning of the story, the betrothal between Belinda and Gabriel is tenuous at best. Belinda's demon hunting has become very important to her. Gabriel is suspicious of Belinda's night time activities.
Speaking of which, early in the book, Gabriel was angry because he assumed that Belinda had been having an affair and was no longer pure. On the other hand, Belinda had no problem with Gabriel's premarital activities. After a particularly satisfying sexual encounter, Belinda asks “Are there other ways of doing this?” Not, “Where did you learn how to do that?” Regardless of societal norms, Belinda is top notch demon hunter in an organization that treats men and women equally. With people that are close to her, she should expect equal treatment in other areas of her life and respond accordingly.
Okay, that was my only complaint. I loved the kick-ass demon hunters, especially the women.Read more ›
While he was away she was abducted by demons. She was rescued by demon hunters and decided to train to become one too.
When Gabriel came back he found her to be much changed from the young girl he left behind. She was afraid to continue their engagement because her work was so dangerous and she had come to love it. She also didn't think he would believe her story of demons in this world, or want to allow her to continue if they married.
After seeing what was going on he became a hunter too. His war experiences helped him to be an excellent fighter.
The book continues through a series of adventures and does a good job of setting up a new fantasy series with a strong female and a loving supportive husband. About the only negative thing I might say about the story is that Gabriel seems too good to be true.
