1) this product doesn't really ROLL up, it really rather needs to be folded along its factory folds. So putting it on backpacks was interesting, not impossible, but interesting and obnoxious.
2) We had a hole by the morning after the first night. I don't know how it happened but by the second day and into the third night we had more several more holes. It seems that the nobs on my shoes may have been catching and tearing it. So I wasn't really happy with how easily it was damaged.
3) Really neat thing we noticed; even though the temperature got down to 36*F, the surface of the pad we used as an apron never felt cold. It wasn't WARM, but it wasn't cold. So that was interesting and pretty neat.
4) Stupidly light. The weight of this item is almost not even worth talking about. We put both of these pads on one pack and didn't even notice- except that they were big, bulky, and clumsy- definitely a draw back.
5) Beneath the tent... It worked great, awesome, wonderfully beneath the tent to insulate us from the ground. This one didn't get damaged and it helped to pad the tent floor. We did get some condensation, but much less than 'usual' for us and I think this had to do with using this pad.
6) It never absorbed water. It rained, there was dew. They got wet. But they shed water just as well as I had any right to expect they would.
7) the hem around this product is fabric and has begun tearing away from the rest of the body. I'll try gluing it.
8) The measurements are in cm I think. If it gives you an idea of how big they are think like the size of a porch rug. Or perhaps a larger throw. Estimating its ABOUT 4' wide and 6' long. ESTIMATED!!! One pad fits well beneath my two man tent. I use two so I can cover the vestibule area.
Original Post: I have not tried this product outside yet. I don't know how it will hold up in the rain or if the sun will disintegrate it or something. We laid it out in the living room and used it as a tent foot print, that said; I was pleasantly surprised to find that this has its own amount of padding, it was thicker than I expected and seems like maybe, just maybe I made a good choice. So I'll keep my fingers crossed and will try to remember to update as it goes.
Good ground cover or ground cloth inexpensive not for long term use.
