“Ash vs Evil Dead,” a 10-episode, half-hour series, is the long-awaited follow-up to the classic horror film franchise The Evil Dead. The series follows Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons –personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its “Evil” grip. The cast is led by Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams, Lucy Lawless as Ruby a mysterious figure who believes Ash is the cause of the Evil outbreaks, Ray Santiago as Pablo Simon Bolivar, an idealistic immigrant who becomes Ash’s loyal sidekick, Dana DeLorenzo as Kelly Maxwell, a moody wild child trying to outrun her past and Jill Marie Jones as Amanda Fisher, a disgraced Michigan State Trooper set to find our anti-hero Ash and prove his responsibility in the grisly murder of her partner. The series is executive produced by Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, and Bruce Campbell, the original filmmakers of the franchise, and Craig DiGregorio (“Chuck”), who serves as executive producer and showrunner.

I am delighted to tell you that my face has fully melted, and I had a blast watching the first season. I haven't gotten to laugh this hard in a very long time. Bruce Campell is still hysterical, and the supporting cast are pretty good too. I won't even lie, there are definitely some times that it was pretty frightening. Overall, if you don't like this series it is because you are a lousy person.
Ten episodes was just not enough in my humble opinion. I do not want to post any spoilers, but I will say that as a true fan the ending left me a little disappointed. Of course I was immediately sad that it was over, and there were no more episodes for me to binge watch. I miss Ash and his new crew already. I do hope they nail down an awesome evil fighting name in the second season.
For anyone who is a fan of the Evil Dead, Army of Darkness, etc. you really owe it to yourself to watch the show. You are going to immediately fall in love all over again. The new cast and fresh ideas are fabulous. The lovely Lucy Lawless does not disappoint.
STARZ please hurry up with the new episodes already.. I need to know more!
I love how they explore Ash's backstory a bit. And the new characters/sidekicks work really well as a way to breathe some fresh life in to the franchise. I ordered STARZ just for this show and I have zero regrets. If you are a fan of comedy/horror, give this a try! And if you are a fan of Evil Dead / Campbell... well, you are probably already watching this show anyway. And if you haven't already, you should read If Chins Could Kill because it will just add to your appreciation of Campbell and this show.
the next campilogical step in the evolution of the evil dead universe. the players are All-in on this. the episode extras help expose this. I kept my starz subscription after the trial period ended solely for this series. when it ends my subscription to starz will as well.
Bruce Campbell is comic genius as Ash. his supporting cast is superb. even lucy lawless is all-in in this series.
season 2 has been a welcome relief of my angst.. Not sure where the series was headed after season 1. I can see now that "Ash-vs-Evil Dead" is everything the fans could hope for. don't take my word for it. the starz subscription comes with a 1 month free trial. GET IT! start watching the series.. you will know by the end of the week if it is worth it.
To summarize: If you loved Evil Dead I, II and Army of Darkness, this show is definitely for you.
(P.S. to all you Joxer fans out there: Ted Raimi has the perfect buddy role, as always.)
