Steampunk is a bit of a new genre for me. I really enjoyed this book. The characters were well thought out and interesting on many levels. Asher has to make some very serious choices and it is great to see him grow as a person to realize what is really important. It was a little weird having two versions of him around. Nice romance angle going and I totally get how Minerva would be attracted to both versions of Asher.

This was a novella so that equals quick read. It was fun, quirky and moved at a great pace. I really enjoyed the writing and style. I will definitely look more into this genre!

One complaint, this was not marked as a sequel. I have a reading OCD when it comes to series or connected books. I now have to go back and read Asher's Invention to fill in some gaps. It did not really matter for understanding this book but the previous book plot twists are definitely spoiled for me when I read it.

Cover Art - Beautiful!! I love this cover and it is one of the reasons I requested the book.

I've enjoyed Coleen Kwan's Asher series. Steampunk is one of my favourite genres. There are so many different things to explore. "Asher's Dilemma" takes on time travel ... and wow!

This is a lovely, lucid and convoluted time travel plot. The steampunk details are fantastic -- and charming. Who can resist a "chronometrical conveyance"?

There is no way I'm going to try and give an overview of the plot. The twists and turns are intriguing, and you need to bump into them yourself. But in trying to avoid spoilers, I can't say specifically how much I enjoy exploring the impact of time travel on the characters' emotional journeys. It's handled really well.

Asher's Dilemma is a clever story about the inventor of a time machine who, with some metaphysical intervention, discovers that misuse of his machine has caused the love of his life to cease to exist. He finds himself eight months in the past, trying to convince his earlier self to destroy the machine before the woman they both love disappears and they forget she ever existed. Someone in their future must use the machine to go into the past and erase her. But why would anyone want to do that to such a sweet girl? The answer is shockingly close to home.

The story brings us the most unusual situation of having two versions of the same character, past and present, in one room. They are the same person, but not the same because the future Asher has experienced a world without Minerva. The plot is totally unpredictable and ends up poignantly tied up in accordance with the parameters of time travel. The characters are well drawn and likeable, and the relationships extremely well handled. I found the men's relationship to each other at the end quite moving.

This novella length story is skilfully written with a bittersweet flavour and a hauntingly beautiful aftertaste caused by one word, sweetling.
Highly recommended.

Steampunk time travel! Something about that seems so right. Honestly, I enjoyed book 1 in this series, but I really liked trying to figure out what was causing the time anomalies and what catastrophic event was going to unpin Minerva's very existence. Plus plus plus, Asher's two sides were intriguing. I liked the differences between his future self and his past self. I liked that he learned something in his time without Minerva.

At the core of all these shenanigans lies the machine that Asher is constructing. It nearly causes him to lose Minerva both figuratively and literally. It brings him into contact with some unsavory characters. It gives him a chance to make everything right.

I'm going to keep this intentionally vague so as not to give anything away. I like that we learned more about Minerva's family and got to see Asher's emotional growth as he realized what's important to him. *nods* And then I'm going to throw my hands in the air and shout "Steampunk time travel!" while giving some serious spirit fingers.

I was gifted this book by the publisher for an honest review. Thank You.
The time and setting is England in the 1870's. Asher has been having debilitating headaches and keeps seeing a woman that he feels he should know but he can't remember where he knows her from. Asher has invented a time machine. Asher travels back in time eight months and then remember Minerva. Somehow her existence has been deleted from the time line. Asher tries to save her. A strange woman named Isolde resembles Minerva. Paradoxes abound. This is a fun, quick, steampunk read with ray guns and time machines. I really liked the writing a lot. There was just enough excitement and tension to make it interesting.
