"Enlightenment Now: The Case for Reason, Science, Humanism, and Progress"
Is the world really falling apart? Is the ideal of progress obsolete? Cognitive scientist and public intellectual Steven Pinker urges us to step back from the gory headlines and prophecies of doom, and instead, follow the data: In seventy-five jaw-dropping graphs, Pinker shows that life, health, prosperity, safety, peace, knowledge, and happiness are on the rise. Beth and Gage continue to have aversion to committed relationships. They love being strictly in the friend zone, but when a day full of fun and laughter turns into their worst nightmare, they end up turning to each other for support.
When they are both determined to go their separate ways terror strikes again. Will it be the end of everything as they know it?
I could not put this book down and book 3 cannot come out fast enough! I definitely want more of Beth and Gage!
Confession: It's always been difficult for me to understand the dynamics of a "FWB" relationship, because I can't imagine doing that myself. As I stated in my review of the first book, the author does a great job of making you really believe this is how they both want it (I mean at one point SHE has the thought that she wants him to make love to her and then thinks, "wait what? 'Make love'?! Get it together girl!") I think I struggle with the fact that he dates other women because they never have Beth go on dates with other guys. She thinks about it several times but has never acted on it. I mean that's her choice, so we really can't fault him. I guess it just makes me sad because you start to think Beth hasn't dated because she's more into Gabe than even she realizes, which then makes you feel like he's not as into her because he certainly has no problem going on dates. I know that his character has a lot more growing to do though, so I feel like he'll come to his senses. You actually get a peek that he's starting to in the end of the book.
GAHHHHHHHHH the end of the book. This was how it went for me:
I was breathing like a dragon and glaring at my kindle with what my son calls my "thundercloud face". Then I was heartbroken and torn because I know that this was what they've both agreed upon but.....but he.......I mean she.......GAHHHHHHHHH I was sad and mad and disappointed and then tried being open minded, I mean come on, they talked about this and he's a nicWAIT A MINUTE OHMYGAWD. WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!?! "The End" NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO *swipes over and over again hoping more pages magically appear*
Beth. Keep doing how you do. Take a chance, honey. Gage. I've got my eye on you. Take care of our girl and don't freaking mess this up.
I loved this book. It is exciting with lots of action and lots of angst. This is the second book in the series, and I absolutely could not put it down.
Beth is the close friend of Stephanie from the Embers series and Gage and Ken are also close friends. Stephanie and Ken are engaged while Beth and Gage are "friends with benefits."
When Gage rescues a young boy who has fallen, he discovers dead women, all wearing white dresses and laying side by side. It is obviously the work of a serial killer.
When Beth let on how she feels to Gage, he decide that he needs to step back from her. So he goes out with another girl while Beth goes out with the "girl." However, they all end up at the same place. I cannot say anything else without spoiling the story.
I loved this book, because so many different things and each one is exciting as the next. I really enjoyed when Gage and Ken go out on a run to an automobile accident. It was very realistic.
In spite of the fact that this book as some very hot graphic love scenes, the author has a lot of exciting plots going on at the same time. Plus besides the chemistry between Beth and Gage, it is obvious that they both care about each other, even though they try to hide it.
Warning: There is cliffhanger. I CANNOT wait until the next book comes out!
I was given this book in return for an honest review.
