Ask Emma (Ask Emma Book 1) Paperback – January 29, 2019

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 21 ratings

Emma Woods knows just how to fix all her peers' problems-or so she thinks-in this first book in the brand-new middle grade series Ask Emma, from the bestselling creators behind the Cupcake Club series! Now available in paperback!

When 13-year-old Emma Woods gets that tingling feeling in her fingertips, she knows she's on to a great idea-and starting an advice blog for her classmates at Austen Middle may be one of her most brilliant ones yet! Who better to give advice on friendship, style, school, and even crushes than someone who's going through it too?

But when
Ask Emma goes live, she quickly realizes not everyone sees it that way. Suddenly, Emma is bombarded with peers asking her to help them postpone quizzes, get out of detention, and cut gym class short. This wasn't exactly what she had in mind. . . .What's worse, someone is posting hurtful comments, telling her to mind her own business. Despite her good intentions, Emma's blog seems to only be getting her-and her friends--deeper and deeper into trouble.

Will
Ask Emma come to an end before it's really begun? Or can Emma find her voice, write what's in her heart, and truly stand up for what she believes in?

This book will include an appendix on cyberbullying resources.

Review from my daughter Laly (11):Emma always loved helping people and fixing problems. And whenever she felt a tingling at her fingertips, she knew a good idea was coming. One day, she came up with the idea to start an advice blog for the Austen middle school seventh grade. Shortly after she started the blog, she met a boy unlike anybody else. He wasn't part of any club and had no intentions to; he was very mysterious. While she struggled to figure out who he was and whether or not she liked him, someone posted mean comments on her blog. They told her to quit her blog and stop putting her nose in other people's business. At some point, it got so bad that this person blasted an insulting photo of her to the entire seventh grade. Will Emma overcome this humiliation and figure out who this mysterious boy is?The "Ask Emma" book was part of the September book box from Between the Bookends box, perfectly matching the theme "Booking into a new school year."A mother-daughter author duo wrote the quick read but important one. This book displays an essential theme about cyberbullying: how hurtful cyberbullying can be to other people. At the end of the book, you can find bullying resources.Emma is a quirky character who would make an excellent friend. She is tenacious and conscientious. She is fearless in standing up for what is right. The mysterious boy was an interesting character and my favorite. This book would be perfect to give to 5th- 7th graders.

    Our Granddaughter loved it

I liked the book! I found it at a book store, read the first page, and bought it. I am not sure how much I liked when she skipped class to go to help another kid get out of studying, but I guess she was just trying to help.
Honestly I dont think I would of bought the book if it costed as much as it does on here. It seembit over priced for a 175 page book, but I am not the publisher! :-D

My girls really enjoyed this book! It's tough being a middle schooler, and as they moved through those years they found this story very inspirational. Emma is trying to find her way, just as my own kids were. She also learns about taking too much on, and we all struggle with that, even adults. As someone whose child was once bullied, I thought the cyberbullying theme was true to life also. I would recommend this book to anyone whose child is just beginning the exciting but also stressful experience of adolescence.

I absolutely loved this book. I’m not a teen… but I so remember the angst of those days. It brought it back. I have bought several and given them to friends’ children. An important book.

I love the book and am reading it with my kids and their/our German friends who are learning English!
It is so much fun to read together and to talk about the content and how students in the US and in Germany see things. I gives a lot food for thought and discussion and is a good reading level for all the 7th graders in our little 'book club'.
