Product Description
The year is 2048. A new economic war has erupted. Rare earth has become a key element for building new machines, leading private companies to arm next-gen submarine prototypes to protect their underwater mines. Beneath the quiet waves, a silent war is taking place, and these new, unstable submarines are your weapon. Prepare to dive in Captain sonar, a game of dueling submarines for two to eight players! Captain sonar is an innovative real-time game that challenges two teams to take their submarines head-to-head in a thrilling battle. Your ultimate goal is to find and destroy your opponent's submarine, but this task is far more difficult that it may first appear. Your entire crew must work together to chart a course, charge systems, locate the enemy, and keep your own submarine fully operational. Communication and teamwork can lead you to victory, but if you fail to cooperate, you'll be sunk to the bottom of the ocean!.

Alright let's move on the next part of this game which is awesome. It's co-op teams. Co-op games are becoming my favorite kind because of the interaction they force you to have with people around you. It's where the fun comes from. Add in the fact that this co-op game faces you against more humans and not an insanely over-powered "CPU" if you will. It's the perfect mix of working together AND human rivalry. And finally on this point each player on your team (you can play with anywhere from 2-8 players) get their own specific role. Anyone who's played co-op games like Forbidden Island etc. know how one loud mouth team mate can ruin the fun of the game becuase no one else can get a word in edgewise. Well in this game every player has an equal and crucial role to play and they all are required to play every round.
Lastly it's very adaptable. It has two modes of play, turn based play and free play, and while I've only had a chance into the simpler turn based mode I've heard great things about free play. It sounds chaotic and incredible. Also it comes with a decent amount of map options so the map never gets old.
There's my simplified review of the game. I really can't do it justice. You need to get 8 people together and have a blast ;) playing this game.

Now for the disclaimer!!!
This game requires a large number of people to play. Although the rules may state you can play with two people, I would not recommend it. If you enjoy the Turn-Based mode rather than real time, then you can probably get away with a lower player count, but in order for this game to reach its real potential you are going to want to have at least 6 people.
I have played the game with 4,6,7 and 8 people at different occasions and I will say that 4 was somewhat unsatisfying due to the number of tasks one player had to take on. 8 players was amazing and 6 still felt extremely good. If you can't think of the last time you had 6 or more people in a room ready to play a board game then this game will most likely sit on your shelf.
With that in mind, if you have a group that you know will get together to play this, I would certainly give it a try. You won't be disappointed!!

The game is so much fun but it's hard to get 8 players to play each time.
Happy overall
Well, that was a blast ! This was by far the most played game amongst the many we procured before leaving home. The game mechanics are just complicated enough to keep it most interesting and super fun through many replays.
A normal game would take anywhere between 45min to 1h max, depending on strategies chosen.
8 people is best as each player gets a role (4 per team). 4 players total (2 each team) can also be done, but much harder since each member has to take 2 roles etc.
There are many different maps to play on and 2 modes : Turn-by-Turn or Real Time
Turn-by-turn : each team gets to play/move/take action one after the other. Makes the gameplay much simpler and easier to follow for the newcomers and we ended up playing mostly that mode.
Realtime : each team moves and takes action when they so desire (very fast, confusing the other team !)
You can replay that game almost indefinitely without getting ever bored with the many maps / modes and possibilities ! Each team captain will influence how the game works (maybe some will try stealth, some others will go all in for attacks etc.) and this makes it very dynamic. The game material is also very sturdy and durable.
The only possible thing to think longterm is the need for whiteboard markers (8 provided with the game). We had to change those at some point after heavy uses (50+ games at 8 people)
If you are able to gather 4+ people in one sitting for boardgames, buy it ! This gotta be a rare gem out there!
