An Assassinated Man is an old-school crime story. It has crooked cops, crooked lawyers, crooked politicians, and crooked ordinary citizens. The two "innocent" characters are a young man who starts the book indicted for a crime he didn't commit and the protagonist, a lawyer who benefited greatly but unknowingly from his partner's criminal activity. But don't worry. By the end of the book, the protagonist has committed enough crimes to warrant a life-time in jail, all in his own defense.

Like other old-school crime novels, this one has plenty of violence, murder and arson. The plot takes wild twists and turns, leading the reader to wonder how Rick Detner, the protagonist, can possibly get out of the mess he's in. He always does. All of the characters--male or female, young or old--are tough-talking and sarcastic. A fast-moving story, An Assassinated Man is great escapist reading, a book I found hard to put down.

Most novels of this genre have a few details and plot twists that appear unrealistic. A successful author writes so the reader finds it easy to "suspend disbelief," and Robb does that. He is a very talented writer. This is his second crime novel. He also has written a very touching memoir with a young boy as narrator (written as "Bruce Steinberg") and a funny story about a quirky marriage, told by a female narrator (written as "Bea Robb").

If you like crime novels, this is a book you should get. The Kindle version is so inexpensive the price is a crime in itself.

This book encompasses the best of classical mystery writing: a small town, the murder of a well known defense attorney, a crooked cop and a corruptible politician, a sleezy snitch and a loud-mouth para-legal combine to make this tale exceptional. Just sit back in your favorite easy chair and take this wonderful who-done-it trip into the seedy underbelly of the law and small town politics. The dialogue is exceptional and could only be written by someone who has experienced similar matters first hand.

I don't usually read murder mysteries, but the first few pages of this book caught my attention and I thought it would be fun to try something new. The plot certainly keeps you guessing about "who-done-it" and I loved not really knowing for sure until the very end. There are several exciting action scenes and I don't think I will ever enter a car wash again without remembering the ambush that occurred in one of the chapters! The book was well written by someone who obviously understands the court system. I highly recommend this book to mystery lovers as well as those who may want to give this genre a try.

An Assassinated Man is an engaging story with well-rounded and believable characters. The plot twists and turns keep you wondering...just when you think you have it figured out, you turn the page to find a new element to the story. A quick and enjoyable read and I look forward to reading this author's other books!

This book was a great find. The story of the ugly underbelly of the legal and political systems intertwined to make a great legal thriller. Corruption runs amok and aims to lay blame at the least culpable in the tale. Suspense in every page. You will not be disappointed.

This was a good police procedural thriller, it might even deserve four stars. It was good to find out who the real killer was at the end of the book. It kept me guessing the whole time as to who that really was.

This is real life, not a 60 minute tv show where everything wraps up cleanly to the closing music. Unlike some books where the reader can figure out by chapter 3 who the bad guy is, Mr Robb keeps the reader guessing, never giving away too much, until you realize that no one in this thriller is good or bad; they're all human, with shades of grey and greyer.
Interesting too is the actual inner workings of the law and lawyers as they jockey for position, trying to get the upper hand.
A great read, highly recommended.

I really enjoyed AN ASSASSINATED MAN. Keeps you engaged with suspense, some unexpected turns and plausible characters. My favorite character was the secretary/paralegal.
