I was excited for this one after loving AC Origins and thinking "Wow now we have the chance to play as a Spartan in ancient Greece that is so cool!" After noticing there was no enjoyment playing a whopping 20 hours of AC Odyssey I realized it is nothing but repetitive quests, a boring story, long load times, and terrible (yes, terrible) dialogue. The combat is fun and the graphics are great. That's it. The game is also riddled with bugs. Origins and Black Flag were among the best AC games in my opinion but this game was totally rushed. I traded this game in at Gamestop toward Red Dead Redemption 2 and boy am I glad I did because Red Dead 2 is the best game I ever played in my life.

Typical uneven Ubisoft game with a few great thrills

+ Gorgeous graphics.
+ Beautiful musical score, with a Greek influence.
+ Combat System: begin with Origins combat system (light, heavy, archery and overpower attack) and add to this 4 combat skills and 4 archery skills; at stories end you gain another 4 combat skills, for a total of 8 combat and 12 altogether. Makes for great and creative combat, best so far in an AC game.
+ Skill Tree: whole new set of skills, some of which are wicked cool (like "Stealth Master" which improves assassination skills at night). You can resets skills at any time, any place during the game for a tiny sum.
+ Side Quests (featuring Mythical Monsters): best part of the game AINEC. Most of the side quests are pretty interesting, a few of them are downright unforgettable culminating in a fight with a major mythical monster from Greek Lore.
+ Cut Scenes: this was a major weakness of Origins, they were rough and awful looking; in Odyssey they look smooth and polished.
+ Arena: another weak point of Origins, in Odyssey the Arena is a total blast, with several hair-raising boss fights.
+ Gear: plenty of interesting gear available in the game, including several lucrative epic and legendary armor sets.
+ Greek Sea Shanties: addictive!

+/- Main Quest: strong for the most part, but the ending is so pathetic it nearly ruined the entire game for me.

- Open World: I love how Ubisoft bragged "Odyssey has a bigger open world than Witcher 3!" Yeah, but if there is nothing to do in it, who cares? Like a sucker I actually took the time to explore the entire open world, and I've never been so bored/dissapointed in my life. Sorry, Ubisoft, an open world with hundreds of "Wolf Dens" is not what I would call interesting.
- Naval Battles: dumbed down version of the Black Flag naval battles. Gets boring fast. Really the problem here is there are no interesting enemies to fight. Just the same damn drones from the Ubisoft shipyard.
- Conquest Battles: again, like the Naval battles, fun the first couple of times, and then gets old in a hurry. The problem here is there is little incentive: you don't get ANY reward from converting all Greek lands to either Spartan or Athenian control. So, other than the initial novelty, what is the point?
- Load Times: longer than Skyrim. In fact you might able to play Skyrim in its entirety while this game loads.
- Horses: inexplicably your horse slows to a snail pace as you approach any settlement. Sucks to watch a local housecat zip by your horse.

So in summary yeah this another uneven effort from Ubisoft. So much effort in some places (graphics, combat system, mythological monsters), so little in others (end of main story, open world). On balance, the good does outweigh the bad, and this definitely a game you would want to play...with a couple of caveats: 1) if you've already played Origins, skip this one, its Origins with a spoiler and a CD Changer, and 2) skip the Open World. It may be open, but its also lifeless 3) wait until the price fall to $40 or $30. No way is this game worth $60.

If Ubisoft continues to produce half-baked games like this (and the Far Cry series, also half-baked), there is no way they are going to survive in the video game industry. Companies like Naughty Dog, Rockstar, Insomniac and even Bethesda put so much time, energy and craft into creating their unique and magnificent games (like RDR2 which I'm playing now). No way a cookie-cutter, short-cut artist like Ubisoft can compete against them unless they radically change their ways.

Back when Shadows of Mordor was release, it contained elements that were definite throwbacks from the parkour type of gameplay exhibited in Assassin's Creed (AC).

When AC Origins was release, Ubisoft basically nodded back at Shadows of Mordor and incorporated similar types of RPG elements from weapons, armor, and equipment as well as 3 main skill trees to customize your character as you journeyed through ancient Egypt.

In Odyssey, not much has changed to this formula, but what HAS changed has beeen IMPROVED in every aspect. Combat feels more responsive than ever as well as traversing the environment (it felt occasionally sluggish in Origins). Added to this journey are dialog choices in conversations which actually impact decisions, events, and consequences later in the game which is something that AC hasn't tried before. This is especially welcome as you no longer feel completely riding a wave on pre-destined choices and responses that you may not 100% agree with at times. Should you berate your caretaker who took you in when you lost your parents or decide to empathize with him? Should you harrass someone for "owing money" for your caretaker or exhibit some mercy? Some of these choices may not pay off immediately and sometimes they might. Not knowing is half of the additional fun that Odyssey throws at you.

Environmentally, Odyssey is by far the prettiest the game series has ever seen and that's saying something considering how high the bar seemed when Origins was released. I showed my wife a snapshot from in-game engine footage and told her "I took this picture" and she had scoffed, "You did not"...thinking she was looking at a REAL aerial shot of a forrested area. It's that convincing (while in motion - the appearance that you're playing a game is there, but the still shots are breathtaking and it's fun to explore Photo Mode to take some rather unique perspectives to share on Facebook).

The story feels more engaging as well. I have chosen the female lead (yep, you choose from 2 characters at the beginning, another first for the main series) and I find her situation of having a somewhat independent lifestyle under her caretaker's watch (who - let's face it - needs more "care" than you do!) to be a fresh take while you're trying to find a way to weasel him out of his latest mess of crossing a really, really bad local thug and owing him money. You're befriended by a local youth who is amazed by your pet eagle...conversations feel far more natural and the setting feels better than Origins which was set up as a straight-up vengeance plot with story elements that served only as a means to an end and not the actual story itself. Odyssey feels far more natural in this case, but I won't spoil what happens later. Let's just say you're in for a treat if what I've seen so far is anything to go by.

Combat, once again, follows 3 major skill trees which allows you to either focus on ranged/stealth approaches versus the in-your-face-brawler style of engagement (or a mix of the 2).

What's even more exiciting is the upcoming (PAID) DLC will feature exploration in the lost mythical city of Atlantis which, alone, looks exciting enough...but it will also include Assassin's Creed III remastered for the PS4.

The game size is MASSIVE...it even gives me more pause then Origins did in "what next." There are plenty of optional distractions throughout and some of them are better thought out than Origins was, but they're generally the same caliber of side quests overall...you'll want to do them to get buffed up for more difficult encounters to come, but you won't be forced to do them all if you choose not to.

For the elephant in the room...yes, there are microtransactions, which is often the "dirty word" these days. But the game is fully playable and winnable without them. Patience and thoughtful gameplay will definitely save your pocketbook unless you're really in a rush to finish the game sooner...but then you're not really enjoying it if you're trying to "get it over with already", then, so I scratch my head over someone's necessity to have these accelerants. So far, I don't have any complaints...it takes longer, but so what? Enjoy the view and the ride...it's beautiful and its denizens are worth interacting with. Don't let that take you out of the moment.

Overall, I like this new approach that AC has taken and I hope they explore other areas...I'd love to see ancient Japan in there, as I know that this has been a fan favorite request for some time. Let's hope we're headed there. Until then, ancient Greece awaits.

It's a very fun game! You really don't need to have alot of knowledge of previous games to play Odyssey. Can watch a quick video if you want to get caught up on the AC lore. I loved the ancient greek aspect of the game.

Game looks beautiful, lots of historic monuments and places to explore. I played as Kassandra. Combat is fun, I enjoyed the stealth. Your choices affect outcomes. There are some cool cosmetics and a very well put togeather main story. Some side quests are pretty funny.

If you enjoy action adventure rpgs, then you will probably enjoy Odyssey. There is also a cool photo mode in game. I included a pic.

A good game. I like the female lead. # Arm goals. World is a bit monotonous. Scenery-wise its very similar but worse than the egypt one (exception being the marine areas in this one). But all in all I still like the A.C. games more than most. So cool to wonder around a different historical period. I like that your choices impact game play. Also you can swim in the ocean and see sperm whales - worth it if only for that.

Received our game and it's in Spanish. All the photos of the game in this Amazon listing are in English, no where does it say anything about the language so I assumed since the photos are in English the game would be too. I'm sure it's a fun game but I wouldn't know since I can't read it.
