Where this particular A.C. game stands out is the original feel but all the good things from other games. I can't say this about a lot of series games but the makers listen to us. They know what we love and they put it into one game.
I would recommend anyone who enjoys the earlier games to give this a try. It's definitely worth it.
Set around 48 BCE in early Roman influenced Egypt, you get to explore all of the major historic sites. Giza, Library and Lighthouse of Alexandria, Memphis. The territory and attention to detail is astounding. The open world system allows for a great deal of exploration limited only by the level system.
The level system is similar to Farcry and other titles, and is the only real detriment to the game. At issue is the fact that any enemy over a few levels above you will wreck you in a fight. While the decrease in your damage output is crippling. This prevents you, virtually regardless of your skill level, from taking on harder challenges.
The quest system is almost as engaging as that from the Witcher 3, lacking the choice system, but still full of many characters with varied and interesting stories.
Bottom line: It is fun, it is engaging, and if you like history, it is a lovely trip through a lost world.
Now for the spolier....Han Solo does die!
When it comes to the plot, however, Assassin's Creed has never been weaker. The modern day sections are back, allowing you to explore a very small location similar to Assassin's Creed 1-3, but their relation to the historical fiction parts of the game is insignificant. In addition, said historical fiction (the main meat of the game) suffers from a very weak opening and a whimpering ending. If you enjoy Egyptian mythology and the setting, a period of strife between three factions (Egyptians, Greeks, Romans), you might be able to overlook the weak plot and enjoy what the game does do well: exploration, combat, and side quests.
