I also love the forced integration with an app as well as a website. How that works is that you sign in with your uplay account to experience so many error messages that last gen could never display on screen at one time.
The game itself (no spoilers) centers around Arno, an Assasin in search of locked chests that require a cell phone game with micro transactions to open. You level him up by "hacking" into your bank account to drain real money at 60 FPS. The rest of the game runs at a solid 12 FPS which is TWICE as cinematic as a movie... No small feat! Once you've completed "playing" a website on your computer, Arno is finally ready to fall through the ground and enter a white abyss... The core challenge of the game, these moments where you simply fall into the sky that accurately existed under 1700's Paris, are some of the most nail-biting moments in any game ever made... Will the game crash? Will you have to hard reset your console? Results are random, so it will always be a surprise!
Many people just won't "get" this evolution of Assassin's Creed and should spend their time opening up a history book instead. It is there they could read up on Paris' floating people and long battle with pop-in. Even today, many Parisians only exist after you've already walked past them. It is these small details that Ubisoft has nailed and they deserve applause with tons of random audio pops just as you'd hear in the game's cinematics.
After playing this gem, I've decided to fly to Montreal tomorrow to begin playing 2018's Assassin's Creed 9. Unity's only shortcoming was that it was a little TOO finished, so I am hoping the Ubisoft guys will let me plug my controller into a broken vending machine in their studio that simply eats dollars that I put into it without delivering.
Update: Ubisoft has mentioned that they will be issuing a patch that may "fix" some of these historically accurate non-issues. For this reason, I have lowered my score to 1 star. If I wanted to play a game that was finished, I would not have purchased a Ubisoft game on day one. Boo to Ubisoft, we expect less of you.
Then there's the currency confusion. It really takes getting used to and I still haven't. Four different types from what I know so far. It would be much simpler with your normal in-game cash, and just one other form of currency for upgrades, etc. Since there's already Ubisoft points awarded in the UPlay shop. But instead, there are points you receive that go towards weekly achievements in UPlay too. It's a bit too much when the screen is constantly bombarded with all the different types of points you're awarded and you have to look through what points work for what purchase.
Unity takes a lot of aspects and makes it more complicated rather that a smooth transition into PS4 gameplay. The actual multiplayer/co-op is another thing you have to read into just to understand. It doesn't seem to be a separate type of gameplay outside of the single player gameplay, but features that take place in the story mode too... Again, confusing. It would have been preferable to leave the mutiplayer as it was in previous games and added improvements here/there to introduce the co-op imo.
The main reason I bought Unity was to continue playing a game franchise that I've come to love but I think it was a bit of a poor kickoff to the PS4 AC games going forward (since Black Flag and Rogue were remastered from PS3). They tried to do too much... packing all they could to be different, when they should have focused on the fundamentals for smooth gameplay. I still give 3 stars for the new story, setting and main characters but they aren't standouts like previous MCs too... Arno is somewhat forgettable. His best aspect would be his sass tbh.
Basically, I won't say "don't buy this" but be prepared for a different, not so good experience with Unity's glitchy and somewhat complicated approach.

Good game..
Thanks. 👍🏽
Trama in pieno stile Assassin's Creed, tra vendetta e onore, e una ricostruzione della Parigi rivoluzionaria eccezionale. Memorabile la sequenza della mongolfiera di notte.
Consigliato a tutti.
I love the French Revolution and for the price that the game is now, there's no reason not to buy it! 20-25$ is a steal for such a game!
Overall, it's a solid game. It maintains the excellent open world elements of Assassin's Creed and the city is a great sandbox to explore. The new engine is impressive, allowing for many more NPCs on screen at once, making the urban environments feel even more alive than in previous installments.
There are some technical glitches, but all the major ones were fixed shortly after launch, so that's not really a factor any more when reviewing the quality of this game. One thing that was especially disappointing however was the inclusion of real-money purchases in the single player game. You're constantly reminded how easily you could unlock game-breakingly powerful gear if only you hand over a little more cash. In my opinion, such anti-content in-game purchases do not belong in a premium full-priced retail game, period. They are reminiscent of the business practices one would expect from a free to play game, not one you've already paid up front for.
The cooperative multiplayer is a lot of fun, when you're able to find players, unfortunately virtually nobody plays this online these days. The multiplayer community died out shortly after launch. If you don't have friends with this game, you might have trouble experiencing the multiplayer properly.
All in all, it's a good game and there's a lot here for returning fans of the series as well as anyone who enjoys this genre of game. I don't think it's worth a full $60 launch-price tag but fortunately these days it's much cheaper from most stores. I got mine on an Amazon sale for $17 and I'm happy with my purchase. I wouldn't pay more than about $20-$25 max for this game.
