Michael G. Thomas is at his best crafting Epic battles while also having a knack for close quarter combat and likeable characters. So I was pleased to find that book #2 in what is sure to be a five book (or more) set has picked up the pacing a bit. We find the Black Legion right in the thick of things making their way towards the heart of the Median Empire. Xeno and his companions are of course front and center for a good part of the action, but you'll find yourself caring about secondary characters like the Dukas, Strategos and of course a certain Medes "Agent".
The stage is set for a tense and costly journey to the center of the Median Empire and the author has done a good job of introducing a few new characters that fill out and advance the storyline nicely. There are more than a few surprises in store. Waiting for book#3!
I love the story the characters and everything else except the missing fill that makes the story real.
