In my mind, one of the best aspects of Assault on Saint Agnes is that its hero is an underdog. Personally, I have always had a soft spot for the underdog and Bobby Kurtz certainly fits that description. In spite of Bobby's military background, his physical appearance, which resembles Santa Claus, would certainly not inspire terror in anyone. However, underneath that exterior lies the heart of a warrior and that's where the story really takes place. Bobby's dedication to his nation, his family, and his fellow man is admirable and he is perfectly willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to protect others. The events in the novel are current and quite appropriate for today's world. I also believe that many will enjoy Bobby's sense of humor which targets himself as well as those around him regardless of their rank!
I highly recommend Assault on Saint Agnes to anyone who enjoys a believable military/terrorist thriller. I am already looking forward to the sequel!
The protagonist was atypical, which was appealing, Someone you can root for.
While it may have lacked polish, I definitely would be willing to read any subsequent novels the author may publish.
But ‘Assault’ is not a formula Good Guys vs. Bad Guys tale. Courtemanche uses his story telling skills to bring to light serious issues of right and wrong – to ask what is morally right, and not just ‘politically correct’, and to point that there is true Evil in our world.
Make no mistake – Courtemanche’s story is a roller-coaster ride. It will grab you from the first paragraph, and not let you go until the ride is over.
I have a short prayer that use in time of stress, which goes like this:
"God, please don’t let me screw this up!"
If I can shut up long enough, I can hear a still small voice answering - "I won’t."
In ‘Assault on St. Agnes’, you will see that God doesn’t let his sheepdogs down.
The book actually reads like a non fiction since the author is very knowledgeable about counter terrorism having been employed in this field and it truly shows in the details. Obviously the author walked the walk and being a gifted writer he writes in a way that makes you feel like you are right there in the middle of the action.
This book reads fast and you will find it hard to put down once you start.
I highly recommend this book and was blessed to have had this book recommended to me by my pastor Larry Timm and having been blessed I purchased additional copies as gifts for other members of our congregation. I pray other Christians show their love and support for our brother Joe Courtemanche and purchase this book and read it! Truly, you will be glad you did!
