Written in the 1970's. There are only a few pages of this book that will help you if you are a modern 6502 assembly language programmer, and those pages are covered by material that is already on the internet. Pass on this book and buy another.

I really enjoyed this book. I like assembly language and wanted to learn 6502 so I could make Atari games. I'm already familiar with MIPS assembly language so understanding this book was a breeze. If you are familiar with low level programming languages and want a good read this is a great book. On a side note in The Terminator there is a patch of 6502 programming in the terminator's view, so if you ever want to work for Skynet this is a must buy.

Had this book 35 years ago. In those days, used to think books like these taught you how to write a program that drew the cover art. Couldn't make the leap from this book to practical C64 programming & we didn't have an assembler anyway. We just had a monitor. Seem to recall learning more from the C64 reference manual. Didn't know yet that these books are intended as references instead of being read from front to back. It might revive some childhood memory to finally write a 6502 program that draws the cover art, someday.

Like all the Osbourne microprocessor books from this period, this book is a gem. It has everything you need to know about the 6502 for programming. It covers interfacing with other chips and even gives some timing info and electrical specs for what the signals expect. This is the best 6502 book I owned and I own a lot of them. It is complete and covers everything including some minor code samples.
It is not for a specific machine! That part is important. It won't teach you how to program Star Raiders either. So don't think you are getting a "learning to program" guide. It is more of a reference work or a good book for someone with machine language experience and they need to learn this processor fast.

This is a fantastic treasure for my collection. If you can still get a hold of one it is highly recommended. This book deals with the 6502 microprocessor, not any specific brand of computer. This book has examples to illustrate points being made, includes sample project ideas for use with the 6502, and even includes information about the 65C02. Lance is a top-notch writer and knows his stuff. He has also provided references to other material (it could take a long time researching all these references!) and the diagrams and flow charts reinforce concepts.
