Be aware of the picture, but these are good planks

It's probably that I just need to pay better attention, but there are only 6 planks (all the same size) in the pack. I duped myself by believing the picture.

Other than that, I really liked these planks. It's hard to find anything but cedar where I live, so the different flavors were very nice. (And if you've never cooked with wood planks before, don't believe you can only cook salmon on them. They add a great flavor to whatever you're grilling. Visit a local bookstore and look through a plank cooking cookbook for different ideas.)

I was really happy with the flavor of these six (6) planks.

Fits Weber Smoky Joe perfectly!

I have a Weber Smoky Joe so these fit on there perfectly without having to do any cutting of the board. I like that it comes with so many different types of wood. They are high quality but only good for a single use. A good tip is after you are done using it, wash the board off and cut it into smaller pieces, soak them, then put them right on top of the coals. Wont be as smoky as using the whole board but will add a nice touch of flavor.

I debated buying these planks. At $6+ per, they're pretty pricy for cooking implements that can only be used a couple of times. I convinced myself that the expense was a mere bagatelle when weighed against the heady aroma of hickory wafting out of the grill assuring the most lip-smacking smoky pork chops ever.

That's not exactly how it went down.

The package said the boards could be soaked up to 12 hours. Thinking that pork would take a little longer to cook, I soaked these planks for four hours. They warped. That's OK, I thought. I'll just char the concave side first, and then I'll cook the chops on that side. The problem was the warp kept the wood from coming into full contact with the grill. Very little of the plank charred, even after seasoning for ten minutes and cooking for twenty and there was not much hickory smoke flavor in the chops. No doubt this was operator error, but the package did claim the planks could be soaked for twelve hours.

The other thing is that they're pretty short and narrow planks. I realize the dimensions are clearly stated in the product description, but I'm just saying, they're short and narrow. They held two smallish pork chops each with parts hanging off.

In fairness, I'll say the chops were delicious and fulfilled the lip-smacking portion of the fantasy just fine. The planks cleaned up nicely and because of the warping are in good enough condition to use a couple more times, but beware. Don't soak longer than an hour. Your results may vary. We're new to planking, but previous experience with some nice big cedar planks was more satisfactory than with these.

it says 5.5"x12" but in reality it is 11.5' x 5.5"Good for fish
dinner for one.

These planks impart a great taste into salmon which is why I bought them; however, the directions tend to lead you to believe they can be used more than once. If you are cooking with these on a grill, you aren't going to be able to use them more than once.

The description says that each plank is approx. 6 x 12 x 1. The actual size is 5 1/2 x 12. The thicknesses ranged from 5/16 to 7/16. Will not try them for a few weeks but wanted to get this info in there. Other than that, they look OK. Made in USA.

Great flavors

Most of the grilling planks available locally are cedar. Personally, I think grilling with cedar imparts a flavor similar to chewing on a pencil. I use the cedar plank in this assortment to scent linen cupboards and the dirty clothes hamper. I use the different species planks here to grill steaks and really enjoy these flavors. Each plank is big enough for two decent size steaks. After each use I really just wipe off the big chunks. No washing, and just store the used plank inside the closed grill. I figure the next grilling session will kill any germs. I get about 4-5 uses from each plank with no ill-effects to report. Of course the container to soak a used plank in is washed well afterward. As a wood worker, some of these planks are nice enough if you wanted a small amount for a project.

These planks impart a nice flavor to my salmon. Soak in water first. Put your salmon on the plank, plop it onto your gas grill and get a nice wood smoked flavor. I considered using hardware store lumber, but am worried what chemicals that might be tested with. Use food grade planks like these.

Just go to Home Depot or a lumber yard

You would be better off just grabbing scraps from a lumber yard or going in to Home Depot/Lowes for wood

2" knothole?

Received the item promptly. I was not expecting perfect wooden planks, but one had a 2" knothole in the middle, and another had a 1" knothole on the side. Not satisfied.
