I've always admired the sound of the old D104 mics on base stations. This is basically the same thing in your hand. Very clear and punchy modulation. It provides more than sufficient voice audio especially in a modded radio, in fact, you will likely be running your mic at mid level or less.
I'd like to thank Lake Distributing Inc for making such a fine mic available at such a low price! It even came wired for a 4 pin Cobra for this price. Awesome!
I did the mods on a Cobra HG M75 and it will indeed BLAST your radio with modulation but even then, the sound quality and clarity of the D104M6B is very evident in comparison. Bright and clear.
For referemce, I am running a new Cobra 29 LX fully modded.

I use the D104 on my galaxy 949 with the gain set at "3" and i get positive complements on how clean and loud i sound. I gave it 4 stars because it started having a lot of static and distortion during "key-down" after a week of use. I opened up the mic and used a squirt of "CLP" in a can(highly recommend) to clean the contacts inside PTT switch. Now it's back to good as new!

You want to be loud and clear?

I've had several of these over the years and they seem to still be great mics.

The 9v battery is a nice convenience easy to find and easy to install.(cheap too)

The addition of the on-board volume control is nice, particularly if your radio has no mic control of it's own. Also it's on the back, out of the way, so you won't accidentally move it with your hand while talking or if you drop it between the seats.

This mic is loud! Very loud! In fact the only complaints I ever hear is about background noise when I forget I have my window down. Other than that if you talk close your voice will drown out anything in the background and punch through muck when other mics can't even think about it. (The noise canceling mics work great as well and would cure this problem, but I like the punch and tone of this mic better especially for DX.)

Works pretty well on sideband also just keep the gain at a reasonable level and pay attention to what your contacts tell you about your audio quality. Small adjustments here can make a big difference in being heard well and splattering all over the band.

A great quality product that will give years of service.

Having a astatic d-104 silver eagle desk mic on my cobra 2000 gtl for years with it's good preformance and reliability i figured how bad can this d-104 be with my new uniden mobile?...well first thing i didnt like was how the battery cover removes and worse when you install it back on! Beware not to bind the mic gain knob on the back you can easily damage it if you dont look closely on what your doing...secondly how the 9V battery attaches to the mic, instead of a cable and connector clips that extend out the mic's cavity its just 2 clips firmly mounted to a circut board inside the body of the mic (hard to get your fingers in)and then the connector pins grasp the battery pins tightly binding the circut board when trying to install or remove a battery by using excessive force to get it to snap together...thirdly the mic's key up button is just plain ugly and cheaply made i antisapate this to fail soon...but even with all these malfunctions and poor design features it talks good...but i have since then retired the d-104 m6b with a Xtreme EC 2018 XTR Echo Mic and much happier with it's preformance...Now its mic's like this new d-104 m6b is no wonder why the original Astatic company went out of buisness thier new design just does'nt cut it like the old school D-104's did!

I have owned two other of these mics over the years and have had good results with them on both CB and ham gear. When the one I use on my mobile CB bit the dust as a result of an auto accident, I immediately ordered a new one from Amazon. Right out of the package it felt cheaper, and the Astatic emblem/sticker was barely attached. Ok, I can live with that, maybe even just take it off if it bugs me enough.

But when replacing the 4 screws after installing the battery (using a screwdriver, not a drill or motor driven tool) one of the screw sockets broke off inside the microphone-- also the PPT button clicked (hard) when depressed all the way.

I immediately sent it back for a refund. These are not made the way they once were. What good is a mic that sounds good if it can't hold itself together, even before it's used?

D104M6B worked okay for about 2 weeks, then the key switch took a big crap. Poor quality mic at mid level price, don't waste your money on this piece of S*** that's riding the coat tails of the superior original D104 mic line. I hate China made products with a passion, I've given them many chances, and they never come through for me accept for the Extreme 2018. Best mic so far is the Extreme 2018 echo mic (and I have the tone knob(NON ECHO) model on order), Extreme mics have so far beat the crap out of stock cobra/galaxy, and estatic power mics that I have owned. The old d104 's are great, just don't buy the ones made in China.
