I'd like to thank Lake Distributing Inc for making such a fine mic available at such a low price! It even came wired for a 4 pin Cobra for this price. Awesome!
I did the mods on a Cobra HG M75 and it will indeed BLAST your radio with modulation but even then, the sound quality and clarity of the D104M6B is very evident in comparison. Bright and clear.
For referemce, I am running a new Cobra 29 LX fully modded.
I've had several of these over the years and they seem to still be great mics.
The 9v battery is a nice convenience easy to find and easy to install.(cheap too)
The addition of the on-board volume control is nice, particularly if your radio has no mic control of it's own. Also it's on the back, out of the way, so you won't accidentally move it with your hand while talking or if you drop it between the seats.
This mic is loud! Very loud! In fact the only complaints I ever hear is about background noise when I forget I have my window down. Other than that if you talk close your voice will drown out anything in the background and punch through muck when other mics can't even think about it. (The noise canceling mics work great as well and would cure this problem, but I like the punch and tone of this mic better especially for DX.)
Works pretty well on sideband also just keep the gain at a reasonable level and pay attention to what your contacts tell you about your audio quality. Small adjustments here can make a big difference in being heard well and splattering all over the band.
A great quality product that will give years of service.
But when replacing the 4 screws after installing the battery (using a screwdriver, not a drill or motor driven tool) one of the screw sockets broke off inside the microphone-- also the PPT button clicked (hard) when depressed all the way.
I immediately sent it back for a refund. These are not made the way they once were. What good is a mic that sounds good if it can't hold itself together, even before it's used?

Absolute junk. Can't fix the crunchy keying sound. I have microphones that are 20 years old that sound better. Read morePublished 1 month ago by Keith S.
