I still prefer the a40's over the a50's for various things...one being that the mic is detachable so in the event that they might break or stop working you can simply just pop it out and get a replacement whereas the a50's are permanently attached to the headset....means you can't switch the mic from left cup to right cup to your liking...no speaker tags as well due to being a full fledged wireless system and the company trying to avoid magnets and wireless radio frequencies in this case....also...another big big BIG factor is that the mix amp is external which to me is the best thing about the a40s that many people aren't realizing...an external or separate mixamp means you basically can use ANY other headset in the market with it whereas with the a50s it's built in and exclusive to that headset alone as you cannot possibly attach another to it...

With that being said, the sound quality on these for gaming is simply amazing although I have to admit that there isn't much more you hear from these cans compared to the newer version tritton ax720's which I previously had prior to my astro a40's....what you're paying for in this instance is basically the far superior comfort level and durabllity in what is simply a much better built product..your extra $100 from the ax720s to these is also going towards robust customization options and excellent customer support from a company who tries their best to keep customers satisfied...the customer service from astro is really top of the line...

Trittons feels like cheap plastic out the box and is so stiff that you easily get the impression that if you flex them open too wide they may snap...trittons are also heavy like a helmet and the ear cups are too rectangular to provide a natural fit over your ears.,..

Found this pair for such a great price. i would really recommend them to everyone for gaming or TV. The easiest way to describe this is that if you have apple products this is pretty much in line with that with the design, usability, packaging & ease of use, etc. only problem is you really need to buy the rechargeable battery pack ($20) or you will go through even brand new batteries in one long sitting. so be ready to snap the USB cord into your little mix amp after every long session for a recharge. perhaps two rechargeable battery packs is even better to have one on tap. you can fall asleep wearing these as they are lightweight and comfortable. the ear panels pop on and off with magnets and the boom mic switches to either side which i love for some reason. plus you can even switch to in-line mic and not even use the boom. most people will/have paid in the high $200's for this so if you find it at this price just forget about doing further research and pick this up!!

Ive been through a few headsets and i must say this is absolutly the best ive use. the first time i turned them on I was blown away. The sound quality was so amazing I went through a bunch of my old games just so i can experience the sound the way it was meant to sound. Not only is the sound quality amazing but I received it early! I can't say enough good things about this product. wireless works great, and an easy setup. If your lookin for a great pair of gaming headsets then i highly recom, mend the astro a40's.

I bought the Astro A40 Gaming Headphones about two months ago for the PS3 and I LOVE them. Previously I was using the DPX-21 by Turtle Beach and I can tell you these Astro blow the turtle beach's out of the water - NO JOKE! There is so much more clarity with the Astro's and I always seemingly had a small buzz with the TB's.

I'm using a higher end toslink cable to maximize the 7.1 sound quality and of course really enjoy the wireless aspect for obvious reasons.

Here my official rundown:

Pro's
Very comfortable headphones & ergonomically efficient
Premium sound quality - IMO the best on the market
Wireless capability
Great quality & very durable vs. other gaming headphones on the market

Cons
Price
Instructions on setup were bad IMO (had to youtube)

Overall the Astro's are the BEST on the market and I would DEFINITELY recommend them to serious gamers...

I keep thinking I leave my TV volume on full blast, but it's really the headset's surround sound lol. This came within 5 days (different 4 everybody) and the setup was REALLY easy. I mean, the hardest thing I had to figure out was where the batteries go.. it's underneath the clip thing on the portable mixamp (or whatever it's called that you have to connect to your controller). Although the little portable thing makes it wired technically (it's only TO the controller), it's not a big deal. The build on the headset is excellent and there was maximum protection (tape, bubblewrap, plastic covers) for the product itself. It came with an optical cable(this is for surround sound) and everything you need for the Xbox 360. I still have 2 cables that I have no clue what they are for, but whatever. Games like MW3 will kind of ruin the whole point of the headset, since the developers from MW3 ruined the footsteps and added so many random background noises that make the headset useless in tracking down the enemy. You will still be able to hear from where gunshots, grenades, helicopters, etc come from in MW3 but every other game should be much better for sound quality. Bottom line is... if you're a serious person about gaming and have a little extra money to spend, this is for you. There's a reason why Major League Gaming sponsors this specific headset.

Also, this headset is really comfortable (you might need to get used to it if you're not used to gaming headsets) and it's PERFECT for people with glasses.
