Update: So, I ran a few more tests on it. For DC voltage/current and resistance measurement, this little guy is right on the money. It does have some issues, though. AC measurement is a bit off. It's decent for ballpark figures, but it's not very accurate from what I've seen so far. There is also a significant delay when the continuity buzzer sounds. Most of the time, meters instantly respond. This meter, however, has about a half-second delay. Kind of annoying. Finally, the test signal for this meter is way out of spec in terms of voltage. Between three properly calibrated oscilloscopes, this meter puts out a good 50hz, but well below voltage spec.
Still, not a bad $10 meter!
Update #2: One thing I forgot to do was take it apart and examine the circuitry. And... it's not great. There is a fuse in place for the mA range, but not the 10A range. So, this thing will probably go bang if you hook it up on a high-energy circuit on a dead-short. Further, there are some trace creepage problems. In some places, the creepage between the voltage input and common is less than 1mm, which ain't great to say the least. Also, after a few more tests with a function generator, this is an averaging meter, not true RMS. So, if you're a beginner in electronics and looking for a neat little meter to get started with, this is a good choice for low voltages. I wouldn't suggest using this on anything that carries mains voltage, or can put out a lot of amps, though, just due to the lack of fuse on the 10A input and the creepage.
This is made out of a cheaper feeling plastic but for the (under $15) price, it's perfectly fine. The 9-volt battery that was included was dead, so I'd consider having one (9V) an extra on hand. Initially I thought that aside from that issue it was fine. However, after using it a bit for a basic to work with my daughter on a science fair project, we could not get any consistent readings and it kept causing errors when compared to our other meter.
I did lower my rating and was contacted promptly by AstroAI, to help figure out the problem, which was a faulty lead. They immediately sent a new one and it was indeed the issue. This right there speaks volumes of their company.
Replacing the lead, and testing against my other meter, this works just as well as my husband's meter that cost quite a bit more. It may not be as durable for what I need it's great.
Knowing how well they responded to the problem, I would buy again in the future.
UPDATE- When I posted my original review, the company immediately contacted me & offered a replacement. My son was almost done with his project (that he needed this for) at that point, so I declined. I appreciate a company that stands behind its products though!

The AstroAI DMM lacks the uniqueness of its tyre inflator and is reminiscent of older multi-meter (DMM) designs that are based upon a simple, single-dial design plus a button, or two. This is not a criticism but rather an endorsement that simplicity often results in fault-free operation and zero learning time. The AstroAI DMM is typical of this basic design of which there are a great many available. I am pleased to see the lack of dedicated sockets for testing transistors which hark back to multi-meter designs (analogue MMs) decades old.
Selection of a suitable DMM was made difficult by the number of choices available and I was guided by the range of measurement options, simplicity of operation and above all cost. The Amazon illustrations fail to give an impression of the look-and-feel, weight and size of the DMM and I gambled upon the AstroAI DMM being small, pocketable and lightweight. I was not disappointed. The DMM is fairly thick but once again this is not a criticism. It's bulk makes it easy to handle/grip and to accommodate the large Lithium PP9-sized 9V battery. Many of the newer, slimmer DMMs use button cells. The DMM case is robust and designed to take knocks and drops.
The range of measurements possible with the AstroAI are fairly typical and a good selection to suit most needs. The LCD can be backlit and readings 'held', if required. A pair of probe leads are included. The only thing missing, in my opinion, is a case to hold the DMM and its probe leads. However, this omission is very common and I usually resort to purchasing a strong domestic container of the type usually used to seal and store food.
The price of the AstroAI DMM is another factor but there are many in the same price bracket. Being 'low cost' does not necessarily equate to cheapness (e.g. poor build quality) and the AstroAI is definitely not cheap. I eventually made my decision to buy the AstroAI DMM based upon my previous experience of the their air compressor, being low cost and a superb performer. Recommended.
It is lightweight and very easy to use and the backlight is helpful too.
Not having automatic selection of range is a bit more hassle, but it is worth the trade off for the price and ease of use of this one.
Very pleased so far with no issues
