Lustful appetites
Starvation of affection
Sheer gluttony
They drive characters as diverse as the only daughter of a widow, and an astronomer shunned by a village of sceptics.
This collection of succulent fiction accompanied by recipes contains awarded and published stories in which locations and characters vary. From humorous to mysterious, exotic to commonplace, endearing to distinctly off-putting; always concerned with food and eating.
A daydreaming lonely woman, a bachelor jolted out of his routines and habits. They seem soothed, calmed, or bewildered by food and cooking. Add the international flavour of the locations and recipes to your reading ... and cooking.

Recipes are unusual but simple to produce. Most measurements are straightforward, though you will want a digital scale to measure flour for two of the recipes. You'll find a 1 liter marking on one side of your Pyrex quart measuring pitcher. (If your liquid measure is smaller, 1000 ml equals 1 liter.) Quantities given for meat in the couple of instances where some degree of precision is required are 800 grams, or just over a pound and a half, which would be close enough. The one ingredient I noticed that needs a bit of translation if you aren't used to cooking in International English rather than American English is the term "plain flour", which is the same as "all purpose."
Grandma's $0.02 - Several of my favorite authors are known for their short stories rather than their tomes. Feel free to add Rosanne Dingli to the list. Enjoyable read, love the Avgolemono Soup!
Highly recommended
Not a book to read if you're looking for edge-of-the-seat action. But if you want reflections on human nature, with more than a touch of humour added, then this is a great read.
And the recipes? Haven't tried them yet, but they look great. Didn't know you could make piroshki in an oven, rather than deep-frying them.
