This motherboard is marketed towards HEDT enthusiasts yet ASUS pulled a fast one on everyone by claiming it's 8 VRM when in fact it's 4 x 2. I didn't know this when I purchased the motherboard and found out the hard way how much heat the VRMS were building up which ultimately led to the CPU needing more volts. This quickly led to some nasty temperatures and other problems (even at stock speeds) which caused me to send this piece of junk back to Amazon and purchase the Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Ultra instead (12 phase VRM).
So in summary, here are the pros and cons:
1. Best bios in the industry
2. Decent design
1. 4 phase VRM which are not enough for the 9700K/9900K at anything above stock. Results in too much heat build up and ultimately failure.
2. Expensive for what it offers compared to it's competitors (e.g. Gigabyte).
3. Cheap build quality.
Bottomline: Don't buy this motherboard. ASUS you really let us down this time.
After receiving my second Motherboard today (01/31/2019) I noticed multiple pins on the Motherboard missing or bent. That's two times I've received damage or malfuncting parts from ASUS.
But then the problem came up. This board did not remember my BIOS settings. Sure, it would for a few shutdowns, but eventually it would hang on start up and wouldn't boot. I restart the process, system starts and runs just fine- until I realize the system just cleared my BIOS settings...again. It was easy to tell, because the BIOS setting I was messing with was to turn off the RGB LEDs when my board was in a shut down state. After the failed boot process, they would suddenly be turned back on.
I've checked the CMOS battery. I've both updated AND rolled back BIOS, and this was still a problem. Thus, fearing future problems that may or may not be more serious, I returned it.
I think it's time we avoided Asus, at least for this particular generation of motherboards. They cut corners on the VRMs, one of the absolute worst places to do so on a supposedly high end board. Their quality control? A mess. A coworker of mine was building with one of Asus' ITX boards. The first one simply didn't boot. He swapped it for an identical, and when he took it out of the box a chip near the VRM assembly FELL OFF. Keep in mind this was their Z390 Strix-I model.

I have only had good experiences with Asus and ROG in the past and this motherboard is no different. The box arrives with the motherboard, included wifi receiver and all the assorted cables. Installing the motherboard into my case (NZXT H440) was simple and easy to do. However the SATA ports are located underneath where my graphics card sits, this means everytime I want to remove or add a drive into the system I need to remove my graphics card as well
Plugging all the components and wires into the case was simple enough however a couple times I had to consult, the very well written, manual to find what each port was. This was worst when dealing with plugging in my cases power button and reset button onto the motherboard.
The bios is well laid out and easy to navigate and even has an "ez mod" if you don't want to mess around with the more complex features. After I had installed windows the Armory software installed allowing me to customise the RGB aspect of it. This is my only real issue with the motherboard as if you want a Rainbow spectrum effect it looks fantastic however the options for single colours are quite limited and the speed controls on the effects seem to only really have slow-medium-fast and nothing in between.
Bar my personal issue with the RGB I really like this motherboard and will likely use it for many years to come.
-Easy to install
-Useful instructions (that’s rare)
