Screen bleeding disappeared. very smooth tablet
UPDATE:after ~ 2 months of usage the screen bleeding gradually disappeared. I didn't have any software or hardware problems. Now I can say it is a 5 star product.-------I received my Asus Transformer Infinity yesterday. It runs smoothly without any problems. the screen has no dead pixels or cracking problem. But,There is a screen bleeding problem especially in the right and bottom side. few other reviews also mentioned the same problem. I really don't know how much screen bleeding is normal or unavoidable for for TF700. I uploaded 2 pictures showing the screen bleeding in normal ips (60% brightness) and ips+ modes (100% brightness). it is a deal breaker for me since I am planning to use it also as a e-book, pdf reader in night mode. Please comment if you think the screen bleeding I have is standard for every transformer tablet or it is particularly high for the copy I received.

I ordered this product on a Monday and received it the next day. I've had the tablet for almost 2 weeks now and feel compelled to write this review in light of the more nit-picky negative reviews (read unfair) over the past couple of days. This is my first tablet ever and purchased it after watching the tablet wars for some time and made my purchase decision after extensive comparisons to the iPads, Surface and Samsungs. Even considered the Sony version with keypad and the Fire Kindles. Overall, the TF700T beats them all hands down - no question. When one balances price (paid $428 for new), features for the occasional road warrior (mini SD and HDMI ports), long battery life, outstanding resolution for the price (1920 x 1200 wow!), the ability to turn itself into an ultrabook when it is docked with the keyboard when one needs to do serious work and the really nice Android 4.1 OS - it is the best value for money there is given the current market right now.

Where the ASUS TF700T really shines is the amazing industrial design of how the tablet and external keyboard come together to make a very compact Ultrabook with even more battery power in the keyboard and THEN full size SD and USB ports that complement the mini ports on the tablet. Done with the serious work? Just detach the tablet and leave the keyboard dock behind. ASUS really had their thinking caps on when they designed this and beat the hell out of the competition. You can be sure Apple and MS are kicking themselves for not having thought of this design configuration first. Apple is dependent on Logitech for their external keyboard. The Surface has to have it's kickstand open to access the SD port and if you're typing on your lap, well, have fun ....

iPad is fun but a toy because it lacks the practicalities like mini-SD and/or mini-HDMI and an external keyboard when extensive typing is needed or a built-in mouse when more accurate pointing is needed. If you want GPS, tough, you have to pay for the WiFi-Cellular option whether you want the cellular option or not. WiFi alone means no GPS. The TF700T currently only comes with WiFi and Bluetooth and GPS - awesome deal. It's all I need because high-speed cellular data connections are too expensive and can be choppy depending on where you are.

The Surface is clean and .... boring. Really Microsoft boring. Windows is great for my desktop where it belongs. I refused to pay for the lower screen resolution of 13xx by whatever .. it just seemed ridiculous when most of the other tablets were offering much higher HD level resolutions. The Surface tablets also need 2GB of RAM to accommodate the OS, so one would be paying for additional memory to run what seems like an inefficient (read bloated) OS. The TF700T only needs 1GB of RAM with plenty leftover - kudos to Android designers.

Galaxy - not bad but felt big and heavy, almost clunky. Some nice features, but not enough to make me buy it when I had the TF700T available.

I've seen reviews recently that are unhappy about flash players not being supported. The tablet comes installed with a video player and I've played videos on Chrome from Netflix, etc, etc. No problems with speed or quality whatsoever. What is the big deal about flash? Is there a shortage of apps for playing videos on Android platforms? Why the loyalty to flash players? And so because of this ONE feature for which there many perfectly good alternatives, reviewers ding the product heavily. Come on .....

I've not had any need for direct ASUS support so I can't comment that. But not having to call the manufacturer is probably a good thing, I think. The tablet even knows when to update itself. For example, I received it out of the box running Android 4.0. Within a couple of days, it automatically updated itself to 4.1.x and rebooted itself. Smart. And all the apps continue to update themselves.

The negatives - only 2.4GHz WiFi, no 5.0GHz, no MIMO (multiple antennas) and the automatic switch between landscape and portrait formats can be a little oversensitive and sometimes slow to switch but it's not a big irritant for me. If you are impatient and expect INSTANT switching then you will be unhappy, I suppose ....

If you are still reading this review then I suggest you read the negative reviews carefully and you'll realize most them are about one or two issues that really aren't that big a deal after all (unless it's basic product functionality like something not working at all which is product quality) and may not even be a concern for your purchase decision.

P.S. Get the ArmorSuit MilitaryShield as a screen protector, works great.
P.P.S. Forgot to mention the TF700T comes with Corningware Gorilla Glass so the display looks really nice and the ArmorSuit doesn't spoil it at all. Competing tablets don't all come with Gorilla Glass, think about that one.

    ***UPDATE***
After charging and discharging the battery several times, I found the typical charge duration to be close to advertised, around 9 hours without the dock and close to 14 with.
    ***UPDATE 2: JELLY BEAN***
Installed Jelly Bean on this tablet yesterday (10/1/12), and I am quite pleased with the performance improvement. Everything seems smoother, and I haven't had any hangs that I occasionally experienced previously. After doing some research as to why there were hangs in the first place, I came across a chart of internal memory/storage I/O speed comparisons across many android devices. I was surprised to see that all the Asus transformers were at the very bottom of these speed tests. This would also explain the slower app launch time compared to my Galaxy Nexus phone, even after the Jelly Bean update. It pretty disappointing that Asus would cheap out on this aspect of the system, and it does seem like this is the root cause for all of the pauses and hangs in the system. A user over at XDA Developers created a modded kernel that mounts /data/ and /cache/ on an external SD card, and when using a high quality SD card (class 10), it seems to get rid of all of the problems completely. I am curious to see how this mod applied to the Jelly Bean kernel would perform. If I am successfully able to do this, I will post the results.
    ********

I've been wanting to purchase a tablet for a while now, but I held off on the iPads because I personally don't like iOS all that much. After playing around with a friend's original version Transformer, I did some research and decided to wait for this tablet to come out. It was definitely worth the wait.

When used with a keyboard dock, the tablet essentially replaces my laptop. I still use my desktop for any intensive applications, but this tablet is able to provide all of the mobile productivity that I need. I can easily SSH and connect to my Linux server for any programming that I need to do. Functionality wise, it's everything that I needed.

    ***PROS***
The build quality is superb; the tablet feels very solid in my hands. It's also surprisingly thin and light, which makes it easy to hold the tablet in one hand and read in portrait mode. The screen is excellent as well. Although it has a slightly lower pixel density when compared to the new iPad's screen, I still prefer this screen. My friend owns the latest generation iPad, so I did a side-by-side comparison to see which screen was better. The brightness on this tablet beats that of the iPad screen by quite a bit, and the 16:10 aspect ratio makes it much better for watching HD movies than the iPad's 4:3 ratio. Overall, there's plenty of real estate which many of the tablet-optimized apps make use of. Android also seems to do a pretty good job of scaling the non-tablet apps as well, so there's not shortage of apps for the device.

The performance in general is pretty snappy as well. I've been using Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on my Nexus phone for nearly two weeks now, and I remember that there was a noticeable difference when I switched over from ICS. I think the same can be said about ICS running on this tablet. There are a few places where it may seem to stutter or drop frames, but it's uncommon and doesn't seem to detract from the experience. ASUS did announce that they have plans to release Jelly Bean to their Transformer lineup in a few months, so I'm sure that the smoothness will improve dramatically with the update.

Several reviewers have noted that since the speakers are located on the backside of the tablet, it may output a muffled sound when the tablet is placed on its back. Honestly, this isn't a deal for me. When laid on a flat surface like my desk, the sound is still rather clear. If I put the tablet on my bed, however, I start to notice some muffling. It's really not too bad, and I don't see where else they could have put the speakers without more people complaining.

    ***CONS***
Update: Jelly Bean now installed on the Transformer Infinity. Performance is great, but I/O speed still a slight bottleneck.

The only real downside to me is that the performance isn't what it would be with Jelly Bean installed. It's still great - apps don't hang and it's generally very responsive - but I expect Jelly Bean to really showcase the speed of the Tegra 3. After playing around with a Nexus 7 which also uses a Tegra 3, I can see how amazingly fast the OS runs. Considering that this tablet uses a Tegra 3 with a higher clock speed, the device will be at least as fluid, most likely better. Asus has already announced that they plan to roll out Jelly Bean to this tablet within a couple of months, so it should be seeing an update pretty soon.

As others have said, it seems that there is no 5GHz wireless support, which is a shame. The proprietary charger that this tablet requires is also a bit of a downer for me. I would have much preferred a micro-USB charger so that I don't need to use two different charges for my devices.

Lastly, the decision to keep the amount of RAM at 1GB is a bit disappointing. I feel that doubling it to 2GB would have helped future-proof the device for a couple more years to come, but I'm pretty sure that this tablet will manage fine for the next few years.
