The display is the best part. The IPS display is super accurate and has excellent viewing angles. The slim bezel is way better than a current-gen Apple MacBook. In comparison, it makes even the MacBook bezels look thicc.
The performance -> No complaints here, it's simply what you'd expect from 8th-gen Intel + PCIe SSD. I do like how balanced this particular SKU is because it has 8GB RAM, 256GB storage, and a Core i5. Most manufacturers give you add-ons you don't need which drives up the price. Luckily, this isn't the case here.
The Software -> No bloatware, no BS. Works great with Windows features. Windows Hello unlocks the screen instantly via facial recognition.
The design -> The design is beautiful and stands out from the sea of boring MacBooks. Metallic blue finish = excellent. The top of the keyboard is plastic, but I don't mind since it reduces the weight and can't scratch. The cover is metal.
The weight -> It's so light but the reason I bought this one is because it's the size of an A4 paper. I don't like lugging around a big bag, so this is perfect. Slim bezels = ridiculously small footprint.
The sound quality - the speakers are positioned downwards so they work great when it's on a table, but when it's on the lap, not so good. But who buys a laptop for audio anyways?
The keyboard -> The keyboard is super average. On this model, unlike UX433, the keyboard is smaller than your typical laptop keyboard. I wish ASUS extended the keyboard to the edges of the chassis for this one. However, the keyboard backlighting is really good and the key travel distance is solid.
The coil whine. This is a problem with a lot of laptops these days, but the coil whine is definitely noticeable. Not a problem when I have it hooked up to a monitor with the lid closed though.
Overall a great laptop with some small imperfections. If you are looking for something portable, I highly recommend this over a Macbook.
The battery life is not, however, what is advertised. I CAN get around ten hours of battery life, but only if what I'm doing is typing or browsing the internet, if the screen is at 40% brightness, if the speakers are not being used, and if the chosen battery life is battery saver--meaning extreme cuts in the performance. I suppose I should have expected this, given the typical advertising methods of tech companies.
The processor and memory is plenty fast for what I use the laptop for (internet browsing and working with docs) but the laptop still stutters with even the easiest seeming games, like Convoy, BTD6, and pokemon insurgence. When playing these games the bottom also gets extraordinarily hot and the fans approach sound volumes akin to vacuums...jet turbines...nuclear detonations, and more besides! Luckily, I do not plan for this laptop to be my gaming centerpiece.
The facial recognition is excellent.
The touchpad number pad is gimmicky and slow, and way too bright when seen next to keyboard back lighting.
The keyboard feels good to type on but I struggle to get my normal typing speed because the keys are surprising hard to press. I've got a mechanical keyboard with brown switches, and the actuation force for that seems to be much, much lower. I can't count how many keys I've missed because in my typing haste I failed to fully press the key.
The touchpad feels good to use --the glass surface is marvelous -- but it is smaller than is totally practical and every now and then glitches out, either not reading my input at all, giving super slow scrolling speeds, or having erratic behavior, jerking every which way.
The laptop is definitely a keeper, mainly because to get a comparable laptop from another brand I'd need to shell out at least another $200, but also because Ive smothered the cover in stickers already :P i just wish to get out information on some of the disappointments and misbehavior, and to share understanding that, perhaps, the reduced price is the source.
Battery life is fantastic for regular use - mostly browsers, word processing and some work apps. I don't play games. Very light weight and powerful enough for my use.
Only have had it for a couple days but it is very small but boy does it pack a knock out punch. Perfect laptop for my daughter when she goes to college. Fast, compact, beautiful, and has really great components. Very happy so far. It has only been three days though.
SECOND UPDATE-- Asus sent us a photo saying we damaged the computer. LIE !! We took photos of the computer before we sent it in and there is absolutely no damage to the computer what so ever. They are saying it is a failed drive and someone from Asus has scraped a little paint off the corner of the computer when its not a drive problem at all but a faulty charging system. Asus is flat out lying and did damage to our computer and saying we did it. Too bad I took photos of it before I sent it in. We caught you! DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS CRAP COMPANY!!!
